Ketchup on ( almost) everything ?

For the last 3 months, my youngest daughter , she put ketchup almost on everything she eat, except waffle, ice cream and cereal. Beside those 3, she has to have ketchup on her food. Name it, Pizza, chicken, pasta, rice. Sometimes I got a strange look, when we eat in the restaurant and my daughter start asking ketchup for her macaroni and cheese. Last month I have to buy the 64 oz ketchup bottle just for her. And I just wonder when she's finally done with this ketchup fever?

I never heard of such a thing for a child so young. That is very strange. This brings me to a remembrance of a grown adult who loved ketchup and he put it on everything including Ice Cream. I would think in a month or so she will get tired of the ketchum or maybe she will end up like the guy from my past who put it on everything. I hope not for your sake what happens if you don't give it too her?

She won't eat her meal. We ate out at the mall and get pizza from one of the resto. And they don't provide ketchup, so I have to walked to other resto to get some ketchup.

Hi ibuemma, I understand that every mother loves her children and would do anything to make them happy. The act of going to another restaurant just to get the ketchup will give a child the impression that using ketchup is the best way to eat food. It also gives the impression that she could "control" her mom. I'm concerned about the ketchup obsession which your child has, and I hope something could be done. I think it is something to be worried about. Maybe something's missing - I don't know, but I doubt it's normal. Please correct me if I'm wrong about this. Thanks.

My husband is the exact same way. He puts ketchup on just about everything. And on the few things he doesn't use ketchup, he's most likely using some other sauce/condiment. He likes them more than the food he's putting them on I think. And when it comes to ketchup, he insists it has to be Heinz, he can't use any other brand of ketchup. I've never known anyone else to be as obsessed with ketchup, and condiments in general, as my husband.

I am the same like your husband. I do love ketchup. I love Heinz and Delmonte. I love the taste of a little sour in it.

Ketchup on almost everything? Absolutely! Well, I don't have the stuff on eggs, that's definitely not a match made in heaven! I am so used to ketchup now and it would seem strange to have to live without it. I'm not sure that I take to it on pizza or anything like that. I also love barbeque sauce but I don't favour it as much as I do the ketchup. I love the squeezy ketchup bottles rather than the ones that you have to turn upside down and slap the bottom constantly to get the stuff out! Andrew

I know that bottle with mess free lid. My daughter love that bottle too, so she don't make a lot of ketchup mess when she eat.

This is not uncommon my husband eats ketup on everything and always have. His doctor told him ketup is an addiction many people get as a child. Now our 2year old is following my husbands foot steps. They even eat ketups chips together. The doctor says its okay as long as we watch the acid levels.

LOL Kids go through those fazes all the time. I remember several years ago I went through a faze that grossed out everyone...I was crazy for sandwiches made of ham lunchmeat and grape jelly. It lasted about 2 weeks before it finally went away. When I was in my early 20's I went through a Doritos and 7-Up faze for about 6 months...thats all I ate. Thankfully I'm not so bad now but we all go through them every now and then. ~~AT PEACE WITHIN~~ **STAND STRONG IN YOUR BELIEFS**

Let her enjoy her ketchup. My youngest grandson was pretty much the same. No matter what kind of sandwich he had - the ketchup was thicker than the sandwich. Often if you asked him what kind of sandwich he wanted he would say Ketchup. He grew out of the phase rather quickly because no one really questioned him about it or commented on it so he figured he wasn't getting any attention from it.

You described it right, the ketchup is so thick on everything. So basically it's not something with ketchup, but it's ketchup with something. The other thing that she don't do is mixing this ketchup with water and drink it ! LOL

oh, I love ketchup too! I put ketchup on lots of foods that no one else would. It just has a special taste that makes things taste better. I wouldn't worry about it at all. Think of it as a spice or dip that she likes.

hi, thanks kmaram. I don't mind that she likes ketchup, as long as she finish her meal. First time she got into this my husband kind of confused "macaroni cheese with ketchup" I just shrug my shoulder. I hope she will try another sauce though!

While putting ketchup enhances the taste of food, excessive use of it is not healthy. I believe that ketchup (tomato, chili or whatever) contains lots of chemicals and preservatives, thus is not good for health. Therefore, we should discourage our children from turning it into an unhealthy habit. Perhaps someone could share with us how best to help people with "ketchup obsession". Cheers!

Talking about how much is too much? I'm thinking right now if I can just make my own ketchup, from the fresh tomatoes that she actually can have on every meal.

Yea, I don't think it's a problem. My neice used to do the same thing. At one point she would have she would use her frenchfries to scoop up the ketchup and eat it. lol. She didn't even eat the frenchfries. Now she still likes ketchup but it's more normal, I guess you can say. I think alot of kids have a taste for ketchup for some reason. Give it time, it'll probably go away.

Ketchup is one of the most special sauce ever made just to match up with everything. It is very useful to strengthen the taste of food which has no taste at all. In fact, many food are nothing without ketchup, like French Fries, Burgers, and other foods. You don't have to worry with your kid eating to much ketchup because its just tomato, But a little reminder ketchup contains a lot of sodium so if possible advise your daughter to lessen the ketchup diet. This I want to share because here in our country, we usually have ketchup in our table especially during meals and one of my instructor warn us on eating too much ketchup. It's just that the content of sodium in ketchup is high and that's the only problem, because this can lead to many complications of Hypernatremia. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hypernatremia

Hi ibuemma. I do love ketchup as well. Like your daughter , I put ketchup almost on everything. Sometimes, I would remove or eat the soup from the macaroni soup. And after that, I would put ketchup therefore making it a like a spaghetti. Weird, don't you think. But I really love the taste. And besides, ketchup is healthy.
