At what age should your kids be allowed to watch TV?

My friend once said that she wouldn't let her child to watch TV until the kid reaches 3 . I was wondering whether 3 is still too early for kids to start watching TV. In our country now people only are allowed to have one kid for each family . Therefore kids grow up very lonely . Especially in big cities neighbors don't know each other not to mention that they would allow their kids to play together. So TV becomes kids' good companion in holidays when their parents go to work. What do you think of this ? Please share your opinions.

I don't think there is any age limit for children to watch television. No doctor or experts have said its harmful to watch TV before 3, however there should be a distance (15feet)kept between the child & the TV so that the glares wont affect the eyes & skin. otherwise its completely fine.

At a younger age TV can be considered just as an entertainer for kids. They will really have a good time watching it. Also many parents finds it easy to feed the kids when they watch TV or otherwise it can be a tough job

I don't know whether what the article says is right or not. It's said that watching TV is a passive way of learning and not much good to the thinking of kids.

I think any age is fine for children to watch television as long as it is in moderation, my daughter is 8 months old and she is fascinated by the television and responds to some of the baby programs that are on. There are a lot of educational programs around nowadays. For instance my 4 year old brother learnt how to count to 10 in Spanish from watching Go Diego ... now i think that is pretty smart for a small child to be able to do that. As long as they arent sitting in front of it all day long then i dont see a problem at all

Thanks for sharing your experience. You are right that watching TV is ok for any age if they don't watch too much a day.

I have two nieces and three nephews and no matter how much we try to prevent them to expose their tiny little eyes infront of the television they will never accept to that but they will continue to watch it, they were like this even they were less than three years. Sometimes my sisters will put on the TV and let them see the cartoons just to be quite.

My two nieces are also crazy about TV . The eldest one even watch the adult series even though she is only ten. It's true that parents would let their kids to watch TV in order to make them quiet . Kids sometimes are annoying.

Hi, I think it is ok to let your child watch TV when they show interest in it. Keep in mind that it is a form of entertainment. You could sit there and talk to you child all day and night but come on, let be real here. The english language consist of many words. The basic words are all synced with everyday usage. My little girl who will be 3 in November, speaks very well for her age. We have speak about everything. So I say, let kids watch TV anytime. But be mindfull of what they watch.

Kids are very intested in watching TV even if he is only a few months. I think watching TV too much and too early might cause them shortsighted. Well i do appreciate what you've done to your daughter. I would follow to do so with my little boy.
