do you know the relationship between MILK and GLOBAL WARMING?

I read a article about global warming today regarding the relationship between milk and global warming. you must be amazed to hear that.someone may think it is ridiculous.but I have to say that they are really related. we know how cow eat grasses.they have to crew the grass again and again. while they are crew grass, they release the gas called CH4 which have the stronger ability to trap heat than CO2. In china, more and more chinese have the awareness to drink milk to strength themselves. so more and more CH4 will be released to the atmosphere. I think it will accelerate the increasing of temperature. so if you want to be a environmentalist you'd better drink less milk. further more, the suffer in milk which can be absorbed by our body is very limited. so we can drink soybean milk instead of milk which have a lot of nutrition more than milk and enough for our body. I hope everyone reads this entry will drink less milk.

As an environmental chemist -- YES I do know the answer! Methane gas is porduced by cows when they fart, which they do a lot of! Methane gas has 4 times the potential to warm the planet molecule for molecule than carbon dioxide has (ie it is 4 times more damaging)... So if we reduce the number of cows we reduce the amount of methane.... Ideas also postulated are don't drink milk, don't eat beef... or somehow capture cow farts!!!!

hello Mistywood, respectful environmental chemist.as a university student, It's my honour to let you, environmental chemist,to notice this entry. you mentioned that maybe we can capture cow farts, that's interesting. while,I think maybe it's hard or expensive to capture it.maybe we should produce a lot of equipment which can be equipped on the cows' buttock . haha,it's gross.maybe the cow is not willing to do that. but if somehow we can capture it,the cow can be a producer of methane, then the problem of energy can be solved. haha, it is just imagination.

Currently it is possible to capture cow poop.... and use it in a biogas generator - this natural gas can then be used to produce electricity... The interesting things is that if you burn methane you get carbon dioxide, for each molecule of methane you burn you get one molecule of carbon dioxide... So by a roundabout way if we could burn the methane we would be reducing the effect of the methane even though we are producing carbon dioxide as it is 4 times less damaging per molecule... hummmm planning time me thinks!

I think we don't need to worry much about CO2.It is the nutrition of plants.the best way to reduce is to plant more trees and increasing efficiency of industry.but It's a little hard for developing country to do that sufficiently.so develped country should cooperate with develping countries. the technology of environment should not be a secret.it should be publized.it is urgent increase the efficiency of industry such as iron industry. in china, the efficieny of iron industry is very low. also we should build more nuclear power station. there is only a few nuclear power station in china.most of the electricity is produced by the power stations which use coal. you know the efficieny of converting steam into electricity. very low!

Hello Victor. I seem to have heard about this, but not very impressive of it. I seldom drink milk, but I do love to drink soybean milk and drink it sometimes when my makes it using the machine we have. I hope more people will read this discussion. Thank you for the information, friend.

hello, williamjisir. long time no see. glad to see you here. I'm not active in mylot recently because I'm so busy in doing my arrangement. thanks for your comments. I also like soybean milk which is made in my university's dining hall and it tastes good. I think the number of the people who want to be a environmentalist will be increasing. everyone wants do something to our ailing mother earth. I hope that all the people in mylot can publize the knowledge of protecting environment.

That's kinda amazing and shocking to know!! All along, milk is supposed to be healthy for us but i din expected it to be contributing to global warming as well!!! BUT i'm not sure how true is that, for i will continue to drink sure on regular basis.. haha =D Whatever can bring to us, soy milk might not be able to achieve the same results.. IN this case, it means one should eating less of cheese as well?? haha =D
