What are your views and opinions on the Fan/StalkerCheck application? Do you feel it violates your privacy in any sort of ways? I believe it's causing problems around facebook, so I would just like to get other people's opinions on what they think.

The information about it says "This application ranks your friends based on how often they interact with your Facebook wall. Interactions counted include wall posts, comments, likes, gifts and other public items posted to your wall. In accordance with the Facebook Privacy Policy, we do NOT count page views or private messages." As far as I know, it does not display anything publicly but simply shows the user which of their friends are accessing your wall most often. I don't see that it violates your privacy any more than most other applications on Facebook do. Nearly all applications ask for access to your data and wall and many people are, apparently, happy to allow that. You could quite easily compile the same information manually by noting who has accessed your wall and has left comments or posted notifications. As it says, it does NOT count page views or private messages!

"... simply shows the user which of their friends are accessing your wall most often." should read: "... simply shows the user which of their friends are accessing their wall most often." (In other words, the information is only available to the person whose Facebook account it is reporting on).

I have just noticed that the application can also calculate your friends' top fans. Again, this information would be easily available to anyone visiting their page and is simply a count of the number of times other people are leaving comments on their wall. I can see, though, that this kind of statistic might cause jealousy and grievance to some. All I would have to say to anyone who felt like this would be "Grow up and get a life. Facebook is the Internet, not real life!"

now that you put it that way, i guess i agree. however, i still strongly believe that facebook would be better without that application.

Even though it doesn't count profile views, I still find this a violaition of my privacy. I do not want anything to do with the application at all. I hate it and think it should be removed from facebook at once.
