I have three kids. All are under 8.
Wednesday afternoon we had to take our 7 year old to the Dr. He developed a high fever. It was over 103. They tested him for strep throat which came out negative. he was also tested for swine flu. The office said we would know the results in 15 minutes. The office said that was negative. He was given the diagnosis of tonsillitis. Thursday his fever was gone. We just had to treat the sore throat. When I was telling my mom, she said swine flu swabs have to be sent out for culture so we wouldn't know the results in 15 minutes.
This afternoon one the one year old's (I have twins), developed a high fever. It is 103.8, so I gave him some Motrin. We are monitoring him to see if he responds. We may end up taking him to Urgent Care today or tomorrow. They know us well there.
Ah. The joys of parenting.
Is tonsillitis contagious?

If the tonsilitus is viral then yes very contagious if bacterial then no.
For example my children both just had a a viral infection this affected their throats they had a fever doctor diagnosed a viral infection no treatment required, I caught it from them and ended up with serious bacterial tonsilitus so it can also depend on the person I catch tonsilitus at the drop of a hat and a simple viral infection can turn into tonsilitus for me.
I would keep up the treatment and see the doctor if your child gets worse with risk of tonsilitus I would personally not take any risks as I had it last year so severely I almost ended up in hospital as my tonsils were so swollen I was struggling to breath better to be safe than sorry I think.
