In our city, people above 65 can enjoy free public traffic, using an old people card, that is literally pronounced that way by the ticket booth. People raised complaints, as it is representative of doubtful level of civilization. While in HK, a replacement is the senior people, which sounds much more pleasant. Do you mind if you are called old people?

we get old day by day.. we get older year by year.. do it really make this adjective so sensitive?
As for me, I don't mind people calling me old, and I admit.. but I am young at heart.. I know where I am doing, what I am heading, and my wisdom grow with my age too..
Don't one be glad that they could live beyond the 'old age' and enjoy some privilege instead? wordings can be sensitive, but it's just an adjectives..

Thanks for responding. I keep reminding myself not to be too sensitive, but what to call demonstrate to certain extent the awareness of the society in proper, esp. the local administration in charge.

Old is old. No matter what politically correct name anyone wants to give it or call it... old is old. These days when everyone is on the band wagon of positive thinking and being yourself and all that...if you are old, why are you embarresed to admit it? So what? Many have been old before you and many will be old after you, so why should anyone have a problem being called old? you are! I get tired of society changing things just to make some people "feel good". I'd rather be considered "old" than a "senior"... senior what? Iwas a senior in high school, I was a senior in college...discounts for "seniors"....can a senior in high school take advantage of it? no, cause they will back up their "senior" statement with "over 55". So are you "senior" or are you "over 55"? Or are you just old? Good grief.. call me old, call me senior, call me a has-been.... just don't call me late for dinner!!!

hi zhuhuifen I am 82 and yes I hate being called an old
person. I like being called a senior citizen as I am a senior'and I am a citizen. Old in the eyes of most americans is an unpleasant situation as they automically thinkof being sick and senile and'having Alzenheimers whereas most of us are active and mentally alert. So'yes I really really hAte being called an old person.

Thanks for your opinion. Though old is a fact, it is psycologically smart to be called senior by polite younger people.

I do not mind being called old people. The youth called me grandma. We cannot denied the fact that we are getting old day by day. In our country if you are 60 years old you enjoy 20% discounts in medicines/hospitalization, entertainment, food, fare so getting old has benefits, too.
