I was in for a rude shock when one of my christian friend told me this particular thing...... I was just telling him about a prayer meeting that I attend and how prayer helped me out.......he said this straight on my face, he said that he goes to mass on Sundays only if he manages to get up and does not really feel that it is necessary for him...... He says that prayer is only for the old and people who have nothing to do in life.....well I never felt that way as I always feel the blessing and warmth of god when I pray and I feel blessed all day when I say a prayer and leave the house, be it only for 10 min or for a hour.......I feel that time does not really matter, what matters is you remember him in all walks of your life......and it is indeed very true that these days youths are going more and more into the Satans hands and they like to choose his ways......it really hurts to see that......as I had come across many discussions lately here on mylot which are all based on proving how god does not exists and how we all should be realistic and believe what science says...... What is your say on this.....do you feel that these days people are turning away from god ???? Are people trying to get more realistic by saying that god does not exist or there is no god in this world it is all a man made thing...... I would like know your views on the same !!!! Greetings !!!!

Before I say anything further, I want to say that I believe in god but not that one must go to church all the time. As long as one knows in their heart who their savior is, and what the savior wants for us all, then one should not feel they HAVE to go to church. It seems now a days churches and church officials are not who they want people to believe they are in church. That is to say, in church they have a whole other persona. I think though that prayer is for everyone no matter what age, prayer is not a clothing style, or a hearing aid, it's not a car, or a cd / dvd / or record... It is communication with god, it is letting him know how you feel about problems, it's giving your all to him! I think that the world does need to wake up and change their ways. More and more people ARE turning to satan, or at the very least, the wrong path! Steer Straight, Steer Clear, Steer away from temptation!

When people believe they have to go to church for one reason or another, I feel they are more likely to do something bad. No matter what their mindset it, by accident or on purpose, they may very well do something bad. Priests today are changing, and they're not who they used to be. Some are being accused of things that aren't true, but with so many in the news, how are we to believe that the majority of the priests are innocent? It's sad to hear when priests fall victim to the media, and to temptation. It is good he admitted his homosexuality (the priest) as I am sure that took a lot of courage. I am not sure what to believe or say about homosexuals. They do not bother me. I am not homosexual and never intend to be, I am happily in love with my fiance who is male... Though I won't banish anyone from my heart or thoughts who is homosexual solely because of their status.

People should go to church because they want to go, not because they have to go. God understands if you have to miss because you're sick or because you have to work. I don't know if this is still true or not but in the past, I heard of some priests admitting to being homosexual! This is so sad! Kathy.

I agree with you on this.......prayer is a powerful tool and it does not really translate that we have to go to a particular place to receive his blessings.......but then I feel that we as roman Catholics take the Eucharist to be very holy and we celebrate the mass.......so I feel that going to the church becomes important......but I feel that the church is really loosing away its glory specially because h4e priests are not that devotional these days......all they are interested in is politics, to run educational institutions, arrange get-together's, picnics, parties, etc.......they not even by mistake arrange a prayer meeting where we can have a fellowship with god(I am speaking about the roman catholic church in my area) All we can do is pray for the people around that world that they might accept the truth and the truth might set them free....... Have a nice day !!!!!

Hi, I'm not a very regular churchgoer; however I am amazed by what your friend said. I would like to see the day when he has problems, and starts asking God or whatever Supreme Being for help. And just imagine God saying 'Sorry, I only service the old and retired people only!'

Hi John4Christ! I agree with you. Prayer is for everybody. Not just a certain age group. Everybody should pray all the time. There is a song we sing in church sometimes called "Ere You Left Your Room This Morning". Have you ever heard it? It's in the book we use in worship called "Praise For The Lord" and it was written by Mary A. Kidder and William O. Perkins. It's in other hymnbooks, too. The words are: 1. Ere you left your room this morning, did you think to pray? In the name of Christ our Savior, did you sue for loving favor, as a shield today? Chorus: O how praying rests the weary! Prayer will change the night today; So when life seems dark and dreary, don't forget to pray. 2. When you met with great temptation, did you think to pray? By his dying love and merit, did you claim the holy spirit as your guide and stay? (Chorus) 3. When your heart was filled with anger, did you think to pray? Did you plead for grace, my brother, that you might forgive another who had crossed your way? (Chorus) 4. When sore trials came upon you, did you think to pray? When your soul was bowed in sorrow, Balm of Gilead did you borrow at the gates of day? (Chorus). Yes, I'm sad to say, it seems like more people are turning away from God. This s not right. I think people are being unrealistic when they say God doesn't exist because he does. His fingerprints ar everywhere. Kathy.

I'm glad you enjoyed this hymn. I hope someday you will get to hear it sung. I wish I could sing it for you,. I'm thinking about uploading a video on youtube of me singing and playing the guitar one of these days but I don't know what I will be singing yet. I also need to learn how to upload videos on the site, too. Kathy.

Wow, The lyrics of this hymn are so beautiful, well I never heard this hymn but i would love to.....its so true, prayer gives us peace from within......when we are in despair and in need he gives us that peace we long for.....sometimes human beings have everything in life but what they lack is peace, so i feel that god gives us that peace from within that we always long for and whenever we ask of him in prayer...... Thanks kathy for starting my day with such a beautiful hymn !!!!

Hey John... i know how you were feeling while you were posting this discussion. I have to say that the guy who said that to you was completely wrong, something he will definitely regret later, these days people are going for the "seeing is believing" thing, some people just won't take things for granted, i mean believing in God isn't something that should be taken for granted but they want to see a proof that God actually exists... asking a proof for such a thing shows that he is being more towards evil, coz satan is what causes doubts in our minds about the existence of our Father in Heaven, i not at all shy to say that, it might sound rude to some people but yeah that is the truth, no matter how much people will say against it, it is the hard truth... it is so easy for us to do things that are against God's and so difficult for us to do things that He wants us to.... i have to admit I am very lazy towards reading The Bible regularly, even i used to pray always before going to sleep and now look how bad i have become, i am not regular at these when i know i should be!... we all need to pray to God no matter how long, we need to give attention towards Him, it doesn't really matter if we go to masses regularly or not but we should ignore God at all, going to masses is a social way of doing prayers and confessing our sins, we actually need to do that too, i mean that is what keeps us more in contact and reduces our "lazyness" towards God.. we all are blessed with God grace even though we don't actually realize that, well when the time comes we all will realize what we have been doing wrong, one day this world will end and will come the judgement day when it's too late and then we all will certainly realize the truth, judgement day is what i fear coz i believe in God and certainly that day isn't very much far away... some people might rate me negative for reading all this but and let them rate, it doesn't matter coz all these worldly things have no meaning when the judgement day arrives, all the people who have been successful in this world and all the rich people who didn't at all believe in God and everybody will come to realize that they have always been missing the most important thing in their life, coz in the end what matters is what you were and how you followed in God's path rather than what you did achieving all the worldly treasures . . . . have a nice day John4Christ!

Yes voldrox I agree with you on this, mass is not really an essence of life.....but then as a roman catholic we have to go for the mass as it is a very important part of the church......also I feel yes these outwardly things wont really matter in the end.....what really matters is how prepared we are during the final judgment day and that is what counts !!!!

Prayer is not for old and retired one It is common one for all age peoples. Everything in the world is the gift of God and no noe can deney it. Everyone must pray for their life and for their health. But nowdays no younger generation does not pray for their life. they think that their parents will look after their nneeds. Is it possible for all parents to make all the needs of their children. So everyone must pray adn it not for old and retired pemple

OH my this really shows how some people go to church just for show. Prayer, for me, is really a wonderful gift God has given us to be able to talk to him. I have been saved by prayer so many times I don't care to count and I have been blessed by prayer so many times as well. Yes I agree that many people are turning away from God and thinking that they can do it on their own. With the advent of technology many people feel that they are more and more capable and have forgotten that it is God who is the center of all, even technology. People feel that man can outwit God and they try to limit God by saying that He doesn't exist. But everyday we see God's miracles that even in the midst of a storm and trouble and talks of recession and all those things, people of prayer always seem to see the silver lining and that in itself alone is miracle enough when all you want to do is lose hope and give up. So God is here, He is alive and He is with us, that helps me live through the day knowing that somehow, God will help me find the way.

I agree with you dear, Technology has seriously gone overboard these days.......people are just trying to convince everyone how false the bible is, or Jesus had an affair, and all possible falsification that they could give........it really hurts to see that as these things are done sometimes by our own people y our own community.......but I feel all we can do is pray for them...... have a nice day !!!!

Hi John, I am not the most religious person. And I do skip Sundays too because I get so lazy. Yes, I am struck by this discussion. In fact, today, I was battling between dressing up for Mass and just wearing casual clothes. The latter won. Meaning, I didn't take the plan of going to Mass seriously. I may even really end up missing Mass today. Honestly, our Mass is very boring. That's why al;though I know that I shuld not base my faith upon those things alone. I really am guilty. But unlike your friend, I don;t say out front that I find going to masses unnecessary because I know we all need spiritual upliftment every day. IT's just that I do admit of rejecting GOd when he wants to call for me. The thing is, in times when we stray away from God, he has many ways to call us back. And sometimes, those ways aren't the most pleasant ones. Don;'t worry, God will call that friend of yours. AND he will call me!

Hi Theresaaiza, Ohk even I would like to make a confession here, even I find the mass in my parish very boring.......for the simple reason being his sermons are all copied from the net and he just reads it out and it is all based on theology, there is nothing solid that I get to learn there...... BUT I dint leave it here, I travel approx 8-9 KM away from my house to attend the mass as I find the priests there are much better and the teaching is really very devotional.......what I mean to say is......not all people have the gift to preach and even I feel that not all priests practice and celebrate the holy mass as it should be......so I feel that there are many ways to come out of it.....just like the one I choose..... Have a blessed day !!!! And yes god wants all of us and so he calls us back whenever we are away......me and my entire family had gone away from him and we know the consequenses of it.....if I go to narrate the entire episode I can fill up lots of pages, but I would like to tell you that being in his presence is the most beautiful thing on earth......it may sound uncool to your friends and to yourself too but then the bible says that "Whoever holds on till the end will be saved"

Hi John, you just don't know how much it feels so good talking to someone who is near God. Dont get me wrong, Im not satanic or something. Hehe. I don't know. I am probably stubborn, and lazy. I just don't feed myself spiritually like I should. I do have issues against Him....and I tell him that almost everytime I remember the bitter past. I know he has a purpose...and EVERYTHING is according to his plan but I just felt bad. I guess for now he understands that I feel bad? And later I should get used to the pain and feel less bad at him. Do pray for me. I do want to be near him.

Prayer is for everyone. I have this friend who does not believe in God. I told him that I am sure, time will come that you will also call Him. And it really happen. He encounter a problem that is beyond his control and he does not know what else he can do. I told him to talk to God. I am sure, he can help you and solve your problem. After few days, God listened to his prayers. What he wanted to happen really happen. After all, God will always be there with us. Prayer is for everyone, not only for old or retired people. Keep posting. Happy mylotting. Have a nice day. Jeff

I agree prayer is like a personal conversation with god.....so you are very right in telling that "We talk to God" indeed we do that......we can tell him all that we want infact the bible says that he knows it before we ask him....but it also says that ask and you shall receive......so it is very imp for us to ASK and seek his blessings !!!! Have a nice day !!!!

We live in a world today where I believe there are more athiest than christians. The youth today are growing up rebelling against their parents beliefs. It is important that we try to teach them to believe in something. They are here for a reason. We should not fail our youth today. For me I do believe there is a god. I pray daily for what is going on in my life good or bad. Happy lotting.

I feel that the youths fail because their parents failed to inculcate proper values in them right when they were small......my parents always taught me the ways of love and Christianity and they taught me how to respect one another.......these days parents are busy busy earning that they don't really get time for their children......

offering prayers to god is a real good thing where one can find peace in mind and relax himself by expressing all his problems to god. ya there r some people who doesnt believe in god always says that there is no need of prayers, its for old people .... but i believe everyone will pray to god whenever he is in deep deep problem and iam even sure of it. hey i say u doesnt have to pray for hours but just remember god in your heart and that will be more than enough

Hello. Prayer is for everyone. In fact, I pray all the time when I am walking, riding, even now facing at my computer. God is really powerful. He controls everything. They say you can move mountains with prayer and I believe that because the only thing we hold on to in times of hardship is prayer. We ask for anything and God will provide. If you're not provided maybe the thing you're asking is not meant for you and there are better things for you than the thing you're asking. Everyone knows how to pray. Close your eyes, create an honest emotion inside of you, start by calling God, and state anything you want and leave all things in the name of Jesus Christ. That if you are a Christian.

The problem with us humans is that we pray to him only when we are going through difficult times and we don't really remember him when our life is sailing real smooth and i agree that that honest emotion within us is very important......god judges our heart and he knows us from within !!!!

I don't agree with the belief that prayer is only for the old and retired. The more prayers are need when you are old and retired, i am sure. We all need His divine help and guidance. The things around us are proofs that God exist. The best proof is life itself!

I know there is a GOD. I have faith in him. When I was growing up I had my doubts about all of that stuff. But now having experienced him and felt him, the only explanation is him. If people would just give him a chance and really try to have an open mind and heart they could and would too. The devil can only get to you if you let him. If you are in a rough time in your life and around negative influences that is the doorway for satin to come into your life. You have to keep that door closed. If you open the door for GOD to come in just once, you would want him there always. People ask "well if he is real, then show me". He is everywhere. A butterfly, a pregnant woman, a flower. GOD is everything. GOD IS!!!! There is no way that this world is all a man made thing. Someone or something had to begin it all. Therefore something or someone had to create man if you want to call it a man made thing. Who did that if GOD is not real? This topic just brought so many feelings and comments I may be rambling, but it just is a very touchy subject for me. I don't push the word on people but I do try to teach any body and everybody that I come encounter with. People these days just really don't know what is really going on in hte world and are just living for themselves when they should be living for GOD. But always remember that it is never too late to start. He will forgive you for anything as long as you are truley sorry.

Hi John4Christ, I believe that the young are seeking answers and I don't think that we blame them for that. Jesus did not discourage people from asking questions, in fact he encouraged it. Young people ask for proof, and may I add that many older people do as well. Since the existence of God cannot be proven, it is up to Christians to show by example that being a Christian is a good thing. In Acts 4:13, it is said of the Apostles that "they took knowledge of them that they had been with Jesus". Those who doubt the existence of God look to those who believe to see if prayer is making any difference in their lives. I think the question that Christians have to ask themselves is,"do others see that I'm a better person because I pray? Blessings.

What a wonderful point you have mentioned Pose123....... Indeed we should be living testimonies of god, if we by our virtue and deeds show that we have brought about a change in our lives because we prayed, it would make a lot of difference.......it certainly would serve as a best proof.......as if we tell them something about the bible they say no one has been in that time to see if these things had really happened.........so if they are able to see Christ in us and his works dwelling in us......nothing can stop the evangalisation work of our god...... Blessings !!!!

the reason your friend said that, it's because he/she never believed the power of prayer, if your friend did he/she wouldn't say that. she/he might have been frustrated for some unanswered prayers. You just don't force the issue, but rather pray for your friend. God never changed and the more i faced things these days, the more I'm convinced to pray more. I'm not intimidated if people are turning away from God, God is brilliant to do something that will make them realize how much they need Him.

I have to be honest on this one. as for my experienced, i haven't gone to church almost two months now because i get to do things on week ends rather than week days. i didn't like now that i wasn't able to church again. but i hope i make it next sunday. I believe it's a mistake for your christian friend because he hasn't been spiced up for worship. a lot of people are like that now, even me. but i try to bring back the old habit or praying in the morning and evening. it's just his opinion i supposed but prayer is the most powerful tool in reaching god. the moment you stop believing...well, good luck for him.

I am so glad prayer is not only for old and retired people...lol....though God bless the many older people in my life who have prayed faithfully for me! I believe that, as a Christian, I am living daily in a relationship with my God. And I talk to Him! Some relationship it would be if I didn't! Yes, like many people I struggle to pray sometimes. But I think the times I struggle are the times when I am carrying a wrong view of God - when I feel like I am 'too bad' or I've 'gone too far' to come to him ...when I feel like I am unloveable so why would God love me? When I start thinking he is that old man with a big stick waiting to punish me... That is not my God. That is when I let other stuff get in the way and lose my perspective. When I look at Him, stay in my Bible so that it is based on truth and not just what you hear from people, and I stop trying to hide, I can talk freely to Him in prayer, knowing that He knows me, He knows all I have done and will do, and He knows the truth in a way no one else does about who I am, what I love, what my fears are....but He still wants to talk to me! Nah, 35 and praying! Hope one day I WILL be old, retired and still praying though!
