Outdoor playing is good for kids' health. My grandson is trying skating boarding. Little by little, along with progress in sliding, braking, turning, he is adding up self confidence, balancing, flexibility, foresight, all related with mental development. What other outdoor activities do you think little kids should be encouraged to join?

My mom use to let my kids play in the cabinets and drawers where I stored my pots and pans. She'd give them a wooden spoon and let them go to town drumming up a storm. Funny thing is that they all developed a love for music and play musical instruments; two actually work for Gipson's building guitars--go figure?!
I discovered that one of the most beloved toys of children is a simple cardboard box, it will entertain them for hours and stretch their imaginations beyond belief.
Clean sand and a few action figures will lead to days of meaningful play. The simpler the toy, the better kids seem to like them. Any toy on wheels seem to give them a sense of freedom and flight.
Family outtings to the zoo and the park, etc., in combination with reading help kids expand their minds beyond the small spaces in which we live. Monkey bars, swings, and slides are great for physical enrichment.
Of all the resourses kids have for play, the most valuable seems to be you. Parents can make play time much more fun and enable our kids to get to know us better through our play; the key is to make it fun, meaningful and memorable.

Your response is highly appreciated. I fully agree with you parents have a big role in steering. Children are brought up from books and from plays.

Both of my boys lover to skateboard, my daughter lovese to ride her bike. I think both activities are good for them. I also think that playing games such as tag or jumping rope is good for them to do. My kids all run each day, the boys more than my daughter. They run while we deliver papers. The running they did all Summer long helped my oldest to become one of the top runners on his football team, and helped my younger son to become better at soccer.

Mental and physical training are good for growing up kids. They are character forming. Growing children need wide exposure. When the kids were young, I put them under the boys scout movements and during school holidays I send them to outbound school. The discipline they acquired made them more obedient kids.

Hi zhuhuifen, I hope your grandson enjoys skate boarding. Recently it has been too hot for outodoor activities until the evening when my son plays out with his friends and they play football or bat and ball. When it's a bit cooler there's swimming in the sea, regular football practice and often we'll go for walks together. I think basketball will be arranged this coming year as well.
