How do you keep organized?

I have many methods already, but none I can actually stick with. I have tried to keep a calendar of weekly and monthly household tasks. I have also kept index cards and used a chore chart to have everyone help out with. I have tried Family Game Night, pennies, points per task, etc to keep everyone motivated and happy and excited, but nothing seems to work. I use recycled or dollar store material to sort things in my house and stick with the rule "Make it easier to put away than it is to take out." However no one even bothers to put things away unless directed to by me. Anyways, this is more of a 'everybody list your method' than I need help. So, everyone, let us know what you do that works.

When the kids were home I used a calendar for their jobs.....but I always had to keep after them to do what they needed to do.....now I live by myself and just keep a mental note of what I need to do.....and try to put things back when I used them....this doen't always work...my craft room needs to be reorganized again and I just did it!

Thank you for your response. It is always much easier to clean up after yourself. No one else is responsible but you. However with 3 kids and a husband... most of the leftovers fall to me or else they would never get done. In my house most people will forget if it was them that made the mess, so they will assume it is always someone else's responsibility to pick it up, etc.

we have baskets that everyones stuff goes into. if there is stuff in the family room that belongs to someone, that stuff is put in their basket and if stuff gets laying around, people get grounded! i write a lot of notes to myself to keep myself organized plus when paper comes into the house, if it is junk mail, it goes right into the recycle bin! (it doesnt even touch a surface in my house!)

i find with being busy and having to drive kids here and there it is tough to be organized. here are a few ideas that i have. we constantly glean through our house and get rid of unwanted clothes, toys, furniture etc. as soon as junk mail comes into our house, it goes into the recycling bin. i use a lot of baskets and clean out the baskets at least once every couple of weeks. we also have a rule in our house, if you are finished using it, put it away. those are just a few ideas off the top of my head.
