Hey Liberals! Instead of turning to force of government for health care coverage

Why won't liberals start an insurance company that shows the rest how it's done? When we talk about almost anything, someone challenges, "well, can you do it any better". So how about it libs, if you think that liberals could run health care coverage better, why aren't there any liberals out there taking on the rest in direct competition?

You may be on to something here Ted. A massive, near non profit insurance company that provides services on a sliding scale fee to those who can't afford it. I don't even care if it's liberals or conservatives running it, as long as who ever is running it is willing to adhere to the principals they expouse and are willing to pledge to NEVER do what they chastize insurance companies for doing (I agree with a lot of the critique by the way). I think such a company, even as a low profit company could probably do extremely well in a market, pretty simple concept, lower prices, usefull services and such attract more customers. Maybe George Sorose should put up a few hundred million as an initial investment.

I wish somebody - and I don't care if it's a liberal or conservative person or group - would start a non-profit company to do just that but it wouldn't be easy since the current mega-insurers would do everything in their power to lobby against it and the lawmakers they have in their pockets would play right along I'm sure. It's funny how they have more than enough money to lobby against reform and to contribute to the campaigns of those on their side but they can't afford to cover someone's cancer treatment. Annie

What do you have against people making a profit? Do you know the opposite of making a profit is? Look at GM and Chrysler. The free market system is what makes this country great. What if you owned a small shop and I said you should be non-profit! You would ask me who did I think I was. Competition and profit are what lowers prices for all.

Competition would if the government allowed competition with medical or medical coverage. Neither are allowed to be run by market forces. Universal coverage is based on the idea that government can fix the problems, but in most cases today, it is government over-regulation that has destroyed the market forces in medical care. Look at the althernative health systems, they are completely on market forces and they are completely affordable.

So it's the government's fault insurance companies drop people for preexisting conditions or because they've gotten sick? Is the government to blame for the insurance companies' practice of rescission? Annie

What they should have is a health care plan where everyone except the truly indigent pays for visits to emergency. If it is just a cut on a finger that needs a bandaid or unnecessary they do not get it back, but if it is truly an emergency it gets paid for. That way they can pay for the critical illnesses that people usually lose their houses over. Oh and one has to be an American citizen, or a visitor who entered the borders legally into the States, illegals will not be allowed to get coverage. They will have to pay the full shot. But will liberals go for that? NO, they will want American citizens and visitors who entered the borders legally to pay the whole shot while illegals get coverage free.

I believe they already tried but they went out of business because they only accepted people that couldn't afford to pay them.
