Why can't I post links, but others can?

I don't get it. Every time I try to post a link, it won't let me. It says that we aren't allowed to post links until we get to 500 posts. Yet I see people with 200 posts posting links. Am I doing something wrong? Why are some people allowed to post links but not others? I am going to make 500 posts soon, but I am now worried I won't be allowed to link even then.
Can anyone tell me what's going on?

Wow. I'm glad I stumbled upon this discussion. All along I thought I could not post links, so I ended up privately messaging people for links to a news article about lightning on Saturn for a discussion I started.
Some people might say that ignorance is bliss, but really it's a bummer. Thanks!

It says you cannot copy and paste when your rank is below 500 right? Why not take your time and copy the link if its possible and type in your post and see if it works.. I tried it to my response to the savant topic, I get the same notification so I typed in the link and works..
