Do not leave your kids in the car @ the gas station

This is one of the reasons I'm a big fan of "Pay @ the Pump"! Plus there was an incident years ago where a woman went in to pay for gas at night and did not see someone laying down in her back seat and you can imagine what happened to her. Either way she's lucky to of gotten her son out of the car. I'm sure that's all the theif needs is kidnapping ontop of carjacking. So please take your kids with you or pay @ the pump! & always lock your doors! http://www.wisn.com/news/20658400/detail.html

We live in FL and it is illegal to leave your kids in the car if they are under eight years old. If you did that here, they would take your kids away from you. I couldn't imagine not taking my kids with me now, even though it is a hassle. You have to be careful when you pay at the pump too. Be sure to lock all of the doors but the door you will be standing closest to.

I usually do lock all my doors while i"m pumping especially in the dark. I know when I was a kid my mom left me in the car all the time while paying for gas. Even while buying groceries sometimes.

When we group our mom paid for gas while we were in the car. Of course, they have certainly changed the laws since then. The world was a much safer place then. We could walk in the country without worrying about someone taking us. Now I wouldn't let my daughter walk on a crowded street. It's just not safe.

I don't like paying at the pump because I would rather pay with cash. Here you can only use a credit card at the pump. So if I have the kids with me in the car then I will only go to a full service gas station where the attendent pumps the gas for me. If I am by myself then I will go inside the gas station to pay.

You can pay cash at a few stations and they will reduce your per gallon rate by .05 wich can be a big savings over time. But I almost never carry cash on me.

hmmm..another reason to go to full service stations. We usually go in, but we don't have kids yet.

We don't have full service anymore. They used to have them upon rare occasion when I was young but not any more. People prefer to save money & pump their own gas ;0)

This is one of those common sense things that most ppl should have. I don't know what it is that makes some ppl think it's ok to go off and leave the kids in the car. We had a couple here in our town that went into the local McD's and were having a meal while their baby (less than a year old) was out in the car. Someone passing by the car called the police on them. I couldn't believe that they'd just leave the baby in a car, in the middle of summer, and go in for a meal...that's what they have drive thru's for or better yet, take the kid in with them. And that kid should of been in a car carrier so what would be the big deal? Yeah I agree about the drive thru and just parking somehwere. Who knows what their motive was or wasn't or just plain stupidity.

Good advice. There have also been lots of similar cases where people have left their children in cars while they go into shops or go to post a letter and have come back to find their car has been stolen. In some cases the thief didn't even realize there was a child in the car. Definitely take your childen with you!

Quite a few of those too leave their keys in the car cause it'll just be 2 second trip and then their car is gone. It's not the first time though I've heard of a thief taking off w/ a car w/ a baby in it... I don't think around here but somewhere.

Yes thats correct it is not good idea to leave your kids outside the car without any adult supervision. One incident that i would never forget is that of summer in Sydney,Australia when a mother of two boys left her kids at her car with the average temperature reaches 30Farenheight in Pert,WA. She used to play poker machine in a clubhouse. When she get back her kids were killed because of the very humid temperature. Her carelessness lead her to jail. She was convicted with 2 counts of manslaughter.Kids should be taken care not just left them anywhere.Parents should be very cautious and responsible about it.

Unfortunatly we hear of such tragidies here as well. I'm surprised there has not been one since spring. The last ones around here were in daycare vans! There was a lady who didn't have a sitter & couldn't call into work so she left her child in the car in her work parking lot in the middle of summer.

Yes people are dumb to leave kids in the car, especially at gas stations, because there have been a few stories where a fire started and the cars that were there were basically stuck. Seems to me there should be a way to plan your trip so you can get gas before you pick up the kids. At least that's what I would do. Pay at the pump is awesome. I almost never go inside :) And I always always always lock the doors even when I'm standing right there. Good warning. Thanks for sharing.

OMG, what a scary story! That woman was very lucky to get her child back and even luckier still that she, her child, and her unborn child weren't seriously harmed or killed in the process. Fortunately for me I use the pay at the pump. If I do have to go inside I bring my kids with me. Okay, so I normally only bring one at a time with me whenever I go somewhere, but I make sure to take whichever one is with me that day with me inside the gas station as I don't want to leave them alone in the vehicle. Even if it is only for a minute, because anything can happen. Happy mylotting!

My sons were born in the late 80's, around the time people were taking babies from hospitals. Believe me, they did NOT leave my sight! I didn't even sleep till I got them home. I never, ever left my children in a car for any reason by themselves. Too much can happen in a couple of seconds. Even with the doors locked, the car can roll or some jerk with a lighter can set the pumps on fire. I took them in with me to pay for gas and while it wasn't easy, I still have them and they are healthy and wonderful men. Even if I was stopping by a friend's house to pick up something, they weren't left in the car! My sons were too precious to me to ever cause me to take the slightest chance they would be harmed.

hi snuggle, that's nice to know and good advice to all parents out there who do that often to their kids.. on my side i will always make sure that i lock the door always specially when stopping time, my aunt experience that incident way back 2006 and she lost her car because of being unaware to people around her.. so sad but it's also a lesson to everybody.. janebeth.

Forgive me for being so blunt, but I think people who leave their children in the car for even a minute to go inside a 7-11 or ANY store for a "quick" minute are STUPID! You're almost asking for something to happen. I would NEVER leave my children in the car, not even for a hot second by themselves because you just don't know what will happen. You can not control every situation!

Oh my, thats so scary. I mean yeah it would be awful to have your car stolen but imagine having you child kidnapped, thats just horrible. Yeah I think people who leave their kids in the car are silly, anything could happen.
