Spectacles are worn by me for almost 5 long years,I have the short-sight or you can say myopia. This had at times made me feel very sad that, why can't I read or write with normal naked eyes. During your whole life one has be with the specs there can be laser treatments done or contact lenses but they are much difficult to cope up with. The treatment may make us completely blind too, there's 0.001% of risk and what if I am the unlucky person. During the complete life this disease will keep on increasing thus the thickness of the lens also increase, creating havoc in the end. Comment on this, why spectacles to us only.Write your opinions too.

It's an interesting post, tintukm, but I wouldn´t call it a disease. By calling it a disease you put it on the same par as cancer, diabetes, aids, the whole ballgame. And you associate yourself, by calling it a disease, as a sick person. I don´t think so! I wear glasses when I read or write, but so what? If my self-image would depend on how I look like, I would be, like most of us, in deep trouble. I have a serious health issue, it's my bones, and I started limping, it hurts when I walk, and there is no fix. And it´s gonna get worse. But I am not calling it a disease, because I don´t see myself as a sick person. Even 'health issue' goes a little far for me, but I have to call it somthing! For some reason, bad luck, destiny, I've got this physical disability, but I'd be darned if I'd identify myself with the part of my body that's causing me trouble. I´m pretty handsome LOL, and I´ve got a big heart! Focus on your positive parts, there are lots of them, I´m sure.

Well Pillusch ,wearing spectacles for reading and writing only as you do,would be easy,I guess but when one has to wear spectacles the whole day until unless sleeping or bathing and things of that sort, then it would have some problem.I quoted it a disease because the short sightedness keeps on increasing time after time and later on during the older ages it becomes long sightedness with short sightedness and that frustrating to happen and think of too. I am actually sad to know about your bones issue, wish you a healthy life with fruits and veggies and even non veggies( occasionally ).Why is there no fix,is this called osteoporosis,I guess. Pillusch Thank you for making me think of my positives rather then this sight issue.

tintukm, laser treatment are very safe, and you do not have to worry about going blind. Since you are only 19 years old, you can very safely go in for a laser surgery.Since you are having myopia, as you rightly said, the power of glasses will go up and you may end up wearing a very thick glass. One of my friend had done this surgery for his eyes and even though he found it difficult in the beginning, now he is absolutely all right. The only minus point of this laser surgery, is your eyes become dry, and you have to consistently put some drops to keep your eyes wet.Find out a good eye specialist who does laser in Coimbatore and get it done.

Hey, Yea I think that spectacles makes everyone look bad, it doesn't matter about how the person looks. Everyone I have seen with glasses, then when they have taken their glasses off, they look much better. Make sure you have a good day, God bless and Happy Lotting!!

Many are actually forced to wear the spectacles and not by their own wish, people who do not like them wearing like me too have actually suffered when seeing other people without spectacles. Its a kind of weird when one has to put on some extra things for the normal life. The entire personality changes I guess, well not as a whole still it would have been avoidable I guess.

Oh i do understand your problem. But wearing spectacles is not reason for spoiling of image, i too wear specs for past 10 years or so but i never felt like my image is damaged nor my friends felt in that way. so cheer up and don't worry about minor things.

The specs give attention to people, many would find them as something extra, but nowadays I feel many people are having specs and there actually no need to give it a worry.

I am wearing glasses myself and sometimes I wear contact lenses when going out for a function or go out clubbing. Actually I don't really mind wearing them (my glasses) because without them I will not be able to look at things. The problem is that the people that I know always criticize me for wearing them, asking me to take it off. What bothers me is that they don't have any idea how 'blind' I would be. And I do feel a little bit hurt sometimes when they say I look better without my glasses. So sometimes I do agree that wearing spectacles spoils my image and my self confidence. But then again it is me who let myself to feel that way and allow them to get to me. I am planning to get a laser treatment too but still have a doubt as I don't have much information regarding it. Like you, I am also scared to be blind.

Its we who must see ourselves as no less than anyone else, just specs mustn't do the difference to people wearing them
