My father has a habit,he always making his watch 5 minutes earlier than the normal time.He has kept this habit for a very long time. When I was young I don't quite understand why and as I grow up I get to know it's very helpful.Actually,my father never be late no matter how busy he is,thanks to his watch. The 5 minutes let him finish everything earlier than others. But I don't like that.I feel I am treated every time I see my watch and I want to know the correct time,so that I can make the most of my time.5 minutes is not so important for me.I think a minute plan is more helpful than the earlier few minutes. However, sometimes I would be late.I think I should learn from my father. What about you? Will you set your watch another time to remind you?

I really don't see any point in doing that, If people ask you the time and you tell them the wrong time they would not be too pleased.

Haha, that depends on your watch,if it runs well, and you know the minutes advanced, you can also make sure the correct time.Or you can tell them your watch has broken and you not know the time either.

I think your father has a very good habit. My husband and I both keep the habit too because we don't like being late when we do something.By the way I just need 2 minutes but my husband need 5 minutes earlier. I think it's very important to keep things on time. it's not small thing in life. from day to day you can get benefit from it.It's also your attitude towards life. so i think you should learn from your father to adjust your watch a little earlier. After a while you will find your life is not in a hurry. You always have plenty of time to deal with the tough things in your life. However you might meet some annoying friends who are always late and you have to suffer from their late.

I like your sentence It's also your attitude towards life.Yes,life is like running my watch. But what you do is really the important thing.Watch is just a reminder. And set it earlier is a habit essentially. So that's why you need 2 while your husband need 5.And I need 0.In other words I don't adjust my watch and make sure the correct time on it.Thank you for your hearty response. And can we make friends?

I have my alarm clock/radio about 20minutes fast. That way, I can pretend its 10 to 6 when it wakes me up instead of half past 5... somehow that just doesn't seem as bad

I have to do this or I'll never get anywhere ever on time. I do this precisely for work and my clock is set 12 minutes early, that's how late I would run if I didn't. Time never used to be a big thing with me but I've found that without it you can't really run an organized life.

My kitchen clock is set 10 minutes ahead just so I'm never late for work. Other than that, all my other clocks and watches are set to the correct time.

I have never set my clock ahead and i dont even understand why people do that. I set the clock for the actual time and i leave early enough to be on time. I hardly ever late. Stuff happens sometimes that you have no control over causing lateness. I've never had a problem with setting the clock on the actual time.

Yes, I usually have my watch set 5 minutes fast. Not sure why - because I KNOW it's fast so it doesn't really help much! LOL But, what's bad is when you don't realize that it's starting to lose time and then you're even later than you thought!

I just always wear my wrist watch then but now I don't. What I was done then was to adjust advance before the regular time to prevent late for my work or any other activities that I like to do...till this time. Have a nice day!

When I worked in a job, I used to set the time on my alarm clock so that it was ten minutes earlier than it actually was! This worked for me, it tricked my mind and I was never late for work!!!

Hey beeduzhe. My father had the same habit. He has now passed away, but he passed on that habit to me. It's kind of funny isn't it. You feel like you're cheating yourself. But it's great first thing in the morning, you look at the clock and jump out of bed thinking you are late and then you remember and are happy that you are not. You see, my father without our knowledge kept the clock 15 minutes early and it did make a big difference.

I generally have my watch and clocks set five to ten minutes fast, but in the back of my mind, I know that I still have a few extra minutes. I do try to ignore that real time and just go by my watch so that it helps me be on time . . . but, there is still time . . . . . . . .

I do not have a watch. However, I always have two clocks, one in my bedroom which I set 3 minutes fast, and one in the bathroom which is 10 minutes fast. One thing that I have come to realize is that being on time is massively important. If you come late all the time, at least here in America, you will never get ahead. They may fire you. You'll be the first on the lay off line. You won't get a raise. You won't get promoted. And so on. Why? Because other people come on time. If you don't, then your employer will think you are lazy or not a good employee. Even if you do more work than those who come on time. On a personal level, being late puts people out. I didn't realize this until I had a friend who was constantly late. Every time we met for anything, I was always sitting there waiting for hours for her to show up. I realized, if this is how I feel when she's late, then that is how other feel when I am late. Ever since then, I have been striving to be on time for everything, and everyone.

My Husband always did this, it took some getting use to but now I appreciate it, He set our clock in the living room wall. up 5 min. the only time it botherd me is when im watching tv and i think its time for the Show to be off , by looking at the clock and it stays on another 5 min.. and when he's watching tv and I think my show is coming on, for instance at one pm, every day, i watched days of our lives, he would be watching his deer hunting shows, so I would say hey im missing my show, and he would say it is not time yet, you still have another 5 min. but the clock would say 5 after.. so i would sit and watch the clock and when 5 after hit say " ok honey you can change it now " so that is kind of aggrivating, But as for our truck he sets it 10 min fast, all this so He wont be late for work, it works out great if im running late and then realize , i can relax it is ten minutes fast..

I rely on public transit to get me everywhere that I can't walk to so I set my watch 5 minutes ahead to avoid missing the bus. ENJOY!

I do have my watch and phone set a little bit fast, mainly so I will get to tthe station on time for my train. It has to be a random number though, like 4 minutes or something. If its 5 or 10 or whatever I get used to it and end adjust accordingly.

I used to do this, for quite a long time. It helped me be on time a lot. BUT - you can fool yourself, as I did, by keeping in mind that it is 5 min. faster, so you subtract 5 min. to come up with the real time. You keep that in mind instead, and this method does not help you.
