cat using the bathroom on the bed

hi friends we just got a cat and he has this problem we have a litter box down for him and we went to the kicthen and i came in the bedroom and he used my bed to used the bathroom on my bed how do i get him to use the restroom on our bed

i would start by either locking him out of the bedroom so he cannot do this agai and see where he toilets next or put the litter tray on your bed as this way it is where he has associated as his toilet then you slowly move it from there day by day to where you want it bit by bit so the cat can still see and smell his tray from the last position it was in
