If your blood sugar levels fall to low, you are definitely not going to feel well. I'm hoping that this discussion will help you recognize when your levels may be dropping and how to treat the symptoms. First, let's start with the symptoms of low blood sugar: 1.Dizziness. 2.Irritability. 3.Sweating. 4.Hunger. 5.Rapid heartbeat. 6.Weakness or fatigue. 7.Shakiness. 8.Headache. 9.Anxious. 10.Blurry vision. What are some of the reasons for low levels? 1.Took certain diabetes meds without food. 2.Skipping a meal or too long before eating. 3.Eating too little especially not enough carbohydrates. 4.More active than usual. 5.Alcohol. If you have any of the signs listed above here are some things you should do: 1.Test your blood. 2.If your blood sugar is below 70 you should eat or drink one of the following: a.)4 oz of juice or regular soda. b.)8 oz of milk. c.)5 to 6 hard candies (chewed not sucked on). d.)3 pkgs of Smarties. e.)3 Glucose tablets. f.)1 tablespoon of sugar or honey mixed in water. NOTE: If your level is below 50 then double one of the above items on the list above. After you have eaten or drank one of the above items the following is what should be done next: 1.Wait 15 minutes. 2.Test blood again. 3.If level is still below 70, eat or drink one more serving from the list above. 4.If your level is below 50 you should call your doctor immediately or maybe even 911 because at this low of a level or below you could pass out. 5.Once your level is back up to 70 or above, the best thing for you to do would be to eat your next scheduled meal within 30 minutes. If it's too soon to have a large meal then make sure to eat a snack that is high in carbohydrates, like fruit or some peanut butter.

hi fellow mylotters Iam answering an older discussion but as a long time diabetic I am always interested in the subject. highs are so much harder for me to recognize although I have been a diabetic for many years. For me I think horrible sleepiness is the leading one plus the sweats and having to run to the bathroom a lot, plus envisioning a huge glass of water as you feel so dry, and so thirsty. I learned lately that if I am very high and drink five or six full glasses of water it will flush out the sugar and in an hour or so I will drop from 200 to 100 so it really works when they say drink a lot of water.

It's very important that we know all that we can about the disease so that's why I'm trying to share all that I've found out in my studies. My next topic will be about high blood sugar levels, which I hope will be just as informative for everyone.

I had a glucose tolerance test five years ago and was diagnosed with hypoglycemia. All of the symptoms you listed are right on the money; I usually have some or most of them whenever my blood sugar drops too low. My energy drains out of me to the point where I have trouble speaking as well. It's not a fun situation to be in.

Yes it definitely can be a scary situation. Those with diabetes not only have to worry about those signs and symptoms but also the signs and symptoms of high blood sugar which will be my next topic. I'm glad that I have a way of helping others by being able to share all the valuable information that I learned from the classes I took.

Have you seen a doctor and received and A1c test? This helps doctors decide whether or not you're a true diabetic. If you haven't had this test, might I suggest that you ask for one from your local doctor?
