Do you wish people you meet on the way or on the job place and its good gesture you know its signs of goodwill?

I always wish those people I see on my way to either the office or home so It is kinda good gesture and there is no harm in wishing people a good morning or good evening. I show the atleast that for me to say these wishes does not cost me anything.
