Can't Understand why am I overlooked for any good prospects or career progress.

I am really becoming dumb now. I have failed to understand why when any career prospect or any progression in level comes, I am over looked. But when any critical work is to be done, any work related discussion is going on, I am expected to do all the things and handle the situation. When there is any responsibility to take, I am expected to shoulder them. It is also verbally said how good I am doing, how easily I can do things and Blah blah But when there is any progression of band based on performance, I am over looked. There was our Band progression activity(Promotion). Now a girl with 2 years less experience than me is promoted to same Band as I am now. In my case there is no progression for last 3 cycles. My manager is not reachable as he is in Canada and all my Mail communications and all, I have got no reply from him. I know they are just exploiting me. But why people are all doing so with me? Should I now stop working new things at all? or should I tell it clearly that until any thing is done to look at the progression for me, my appraisal or salary increase, I will not take any responsibility. What is your advice?

well when they can put the responsibility off on you for the same amount of pay that you are getting, why should they give you the raise or promotion. Youw will do it anyway, but then lets be realistic, if your country is anything like ours, there is a lot of people out there that will do it for less even to have a job. Why are you pasted over, still my opinion that you complain too much and they give you the work cause you are constantly complaining that you don't get what you deserve. So they pile the work on you. That is what you ask for, and when it comes to promotions they promote the ones that sit back and keep their mouth shut. I'm sorry but I believe you need to find something else to do in life for a job. First it was not getting any work, now it is getting all of it. And if you do it you want a promotion. Sorry but I would of already canned you out the door as soon as I got a chance to. Employers don't want to here the hype any more, you either satisfied with working for them or you not, and in todays society there is plenty more to take your place and yes for a lot less.

I really think you have problem all the things with me. When our country is not yours, what you just just taken for granted, why you are telling all these?I think its always better not to judge and just throw the venum at others looking at own's perspective. Here not all are just sitting back and talking nothing and getting pay rise or promotions. I talk nothing, just do my work. I think they are taking advantage of me. I think it is worthless to tell these points anymore.I think its soemthing very different in siftware company regarding projects and all than what you think. Here promotions are based on overall duration of work and not on just work in one or more projects. When others are getting all, without doing even 50% of my job, why should I not ask for promotions? I ahve a friend who always fights with her managers and more than half a duration on bench, can get promotion, why can't I in same company with many customer appreciations?

I have explained to the OP several times that her negative, complaining attitude is what is bringing her down. She complains about everything and is always miserable. Her family life is unhappy, her love life ended with unhappiness, she is unhappy at work and she has no friends. But she will not understand that she is doing this to herself.

I have nothing against you, but here in my country, the ones that squack and complain get no where, the ones that do their job, and keep their mouth shut get promoted. The more you complain the less they give you, if your work is so good the company should be able to see it. And yes I do believe that they are taking advantage of you. They see you will do it do it good and fast and without more pay, so as long as you do it they will put it on you. Why should you get a promotion when you will do it for what you are getting now. My problem with you is that in every post you put on here, it is to complain about your job, they aren't treating you right, they give every thing to the others, if I was as mersiable as you are in a job I would go look for another one. If you do this much complaining on here, I can only imagine what you do at work. Don't take me wrong, everyone feels like they deserve more than what they are getting when doing a job for someone else. And yes many times we are passed over for someone that they just hired, or don't do half what we do. Have you actually ever went to them and said, Ok now I want you to explain to me why they got the promotion instead of me. See what their reasoning was for giving them the promotion instead of you. Find out what this person is doing that is so great when they haven't been there near as long as you. They should explain why they chose that person over you. Maybe then you could get some idea of how they rate a person for promotions. My grand daughters are in ROTC, recently at a awards banquet, this one girl who was only in the squad for a few months, and my grand daughter been in it 2 years now, kept getting the awards over my grand daughter. This hurt my grand daughter's feelings, why give the awards to someone only been there a little time and is never there for the chores that are to be done. She finally went to the head leader and ask what made this girl so special. And the answer was she gets A's in school you don't. So her hard work in school was worth more than the hard back breaking jobs my grand daughter does for them. Half of Rotc is based on your grades. so the better you do in school the more you are rewarded for. Just an example, there has to be a reason that you are always passed over. Go ask why, what they do that is so much better when they do half as much as you do. I know it seem like you beating your head against a wall but unless you find out what you are doing wrong, and why you are always passed over you are going to always be where you are.

It could be because of many reasons. One that you are not very assertive or demanding or the other that people find it very easy to handle you and give promotion to someone else who can't be handled and is threatening to leave. But if its neither and they are simply ignoring you after all your hard work, I guess its high time that you start uploading your CV to job sites. You can only work hard and be a proactive employee and take initiatives. But if no one is recognizing your efforts and skills then I guess there is something fundamentally wrong with you organization.

I think I can speculate the reason why you are overlooked. Have you met the KPI? If yes, what is the reason for the overlooking. If not, what have you done to meet the KPI. Perhaps you might want to observe the attitude and performance of your juniors or peers. Try to find out the expectation of your bosses. Show and tell them how and why you deserve the promotion. It may sound harsh but I have no ill-intention. That's how the working environment is, especially when you are in the project services. Wish you all the best :)

I really appreciate the professional way of responding. It that I always have loads of Client appreciation, project managers appreciate and all KPI are met. May be I have no God father and do not take those "other ways" few people take.

i think i would have resigned a long time ago... i would say 'enough is enough' - if i am being treated really bad overthere, and truly all my efforts and hardwork was unappreciated - i would just leave.. if you trully think you need that job so desperately, and no other job will pay as much as your current job.. maybe you'd need to stay - you probably have your own reasons for staying on all this while - even when you're complaining so much... but to me.. a 'good' working environment is also 'part and parcel' of a job.. the pay may not be as much, but if the working environment, the people i work with are wonderful - i wont mind as much.. a good 'peace of mind' is also important to me, apart from the monthly salary i get...

Perhaps if that was Plan A and it was not working, Plan B is to make Plan A work :) Perhaps Plan C is to find out if the competitor would be interested in hiring you. Usually, when we have worked at getting the needed skills to succeed, there is always at least one other organization that would be interested in you. Just a thought :) Cheers

Its a well advice. I have applied to another company, they contacted me primarily to know my location preference and told they will again contact me for interview. They are yet to contact again. I think all bad things come together.

Hello there! I know you many months now and I have also been following your discussions so I know what you are really up to, I think you should be more visible to others even in their happy days because it seems that they forget you very easily when they have other things or person in sight. Make yourself visible to them and tell them about your salary too dear, iit's high time now.
