Today I passed my theory test for driving a car test. In order to book my practical driving test I had to have a pass at that. There were fifty multiple choice questions about driving and then a fourteen clips where I had to point out hazards. I cost thirty one pounds to do. Do you think a theory test should be done before a practical driving test? Is it just a money making opportunity or it is about safety?

Congrats on passing! I think a theory test is very important. It ensures that new drivers know the rules of the road. My son just got his driver's license. He basically had to do the same thing you did. He thought he knew alot about driving, but realized he didn't when he started studying for it. I think the more you know, the more prepared you are, the safer and better driver you will be.

I got my Victorian driving license in 1958, but because I let it lapse in 1999 when I was overseas, I had to go for a new one on my return. I had to do a theory test, but not the harad part. There were 32 questions of which I missed only one. I am pretty proud of that. I am in favour of doing the theory test before the driving, then at least you are aware of the road laws and hazards before you do the driving part.

Congrats! In my opinion, it is easier to pass the theory test compared to the practical driving test. As the word theory implies, it is only theory and it merely assumes one who knows the theory can apply the theory in practice. I feel it is partly a money making opportunity more than safety. lol.

Hello maximax. It is the same here about the theory test for car driving. I got to know this from my wife years ago when I encouraged her to learn to drive and get a driver's license. It cost us more than four thousand RMB for the learning of driving including the test. I think that it is worth it and it is necessary to learn and have a test for car driving. It helps the driver to know more about driving knowledge. Of course, the training organization makes some benifits from it and they deserve it. Take care, friend.

Yes it has to be. "You first need to know before you need to do". What you said about money making is absolutely correct. The test is more like a formality thing, because they know already that you know how to drive, so there is not much point in the theory thing. But that is the system, so we might as well follow the procedure. Happy day maximax

I think there is some good in it. Congratulations first of all on passing. I do think it is a positive thing and there are a number of important rules you should be aware of. However I actually think that the practical should come first and the theory second because most of it doesn't really make sense until you learn how to drive.

Firstly congratulations my friend on passing your theory test! I didn't have a theory test when I passed my test, it was back in 1989 so I was fortunate in that respect that I didn't have to pay out for an extra test on top. I think it is a good idea, because you need to be aware of the highway code when driving, rather than going out blind so to speak. There are so many hazards out there and if you armed with the knowing the highway code it does give you a bit more knowledge and safety. There are so many bad drivers out there who don't know the highway code, it's a wonder they passed! Let us know when you pass your actual test. I passed mine second time round, I failed believe it or not on a roundabout first time and my nerves got to me as well!

Congratulations. I think the theory test is very necessary. It can give drivers a big picture of safety driving. Don’t get me wrong. I think some rules to some people are very normal, but to some people from different country are not normal. So to let people having a common knowledge about driving it’s necessary to have a test. It’s not too bad that just cost 31 pounds. I thought in the end it is a huge cost to get a driving license. Wish you can pass your practical test sooner.
