Long hair or short hair for men?

As some wit said, nostalgia isn't what it used to be. I'm as sentimental as the best of them but there are some things in the past that I don't care for too much. One of them was the preoccupation that the older generation had with long hair. I remember those days when the Beatles and the Rolling Stones were groovy, there were endless debates on the demerits of long hair and tight pants in my country. Even then I thought this was boring. Since neither the Beatles not the Stones had the sort of faces that I found at all inspiring, I thought it was better for them to have the hair to hide their features. As for the tight pants, eventually they gave way to even more hideous baggies, bell bottoms and platform shoes. What it might serve us to remember is that things like long hair, drainpipes, fringed vests, midiskirts etc. are just fashion and eventually they make way for other fashion trends. Such is the nature of the modern world. Where once a Stones song was deemed to be 'revolutionary', now it's pretty much mainstream. Who has not heard a familiar Beatles or Stones number in some elevator? It strikes me as inconsistent that when long hair was in fashion, it was condemned and when it was followed by short hair as the new trend, short hair was not. Why should short hair be any more desirable than long hair for men?

If it's well cared for then I have no preferences. Long hair suits some and doesn't suit others

They should know whether long hair suits them and also it depends on their jobs. Having long hair in a professional career is not quite right. But band boys are great with long hair.

Yes, that is strange. I like long hair on men whom it suits and I like short hair as well. My ex was one of those guys who looked good in both. My pet peeve is the stubble on the chin and cheeks...who deemed that attractive...its horrid!. So grubby looking and uncared for. I'm sorry for guys in that they need to shave every day but women need to be just as dilligent to present themselves well.

Not all men looks great in long hair. Long hair goes well with men who have good body built but in slim men they don't look appealing in long hair. Women should always be presentable.

I always think the men who have short hair look better. Seldom long hair men look very attractive for me. I especially like men who have crew cut and the look is very handsome. I love China

The chinese actors in ancient movies normally spot long hair. Especially those kungfu movies.

I have always liked shorter hair better on men. To me long hair just looks more dirty and unkempt. Just my opinion though.

Men with long hair have ways to keep their hair look more neat by tying their hair into a ponytail. They looks smart that way.

it depends.some guys look great with long hair.some look nicer with short.personally I think it depends on how it looks on a guy.I don't really care,as long as he takes good care of his hair and has good hair hygiene.

I think men are also conscious of the condition of their hair. They will always visit saloons to have regular hair wash.

short hair looks clean. i think long hair is for girls and short hair is for boys. so it's better if men have short hair. but maybe it's still depends on the comfortability of a person. :)

ha ha ha ha... interesting. Well, like you said, it is a fad. A passing phase in time. A fashion statement as some would call it. At one stage it was bleached hair. Then it was all about colored ( as in neon colored hair ). Then there was the Beckham cockerel crown style. Then there was the Ronaldo village look. The fad changes so fast. Whatever the fashion is, it is a passing phase. Some people like to follow it. Others, just stick to the regular cut as a preference. For me, I personally find short hair is the best. Easy to manage. Neat to look at.

ha ha ha ha ha... Not every one can carry the crew cut nicely. I for one look like a frigging football with a turf of grass on it when I sport a crew cut! My wife absolutely hates it when I do!

Blondie friend responding...sorry i got so confused reading this. Are you for or against long hair? I don't remember the stones revelutionary song but I do remember the beatles one. the elevator song...aerosmith. I totally got lost in your writing here but ...probably it's me...it is late . Anyway...long hair...I love it on men ...some men. I get picked on because most of the men that I date have long hair. Ok ...so I know this is a deeper conversation than whether or not I like long hair. I'm really tired. I'll come back tomorrow and try to give you a better answer. ok?

I stand neutral sid. I am for both. I do get attracted to long haired man, provided it is not silver white hair. Black is beautiful. They depict the star status in them.

I like grizzly, messy hair or hair with a wave-like tumble; none too long and none too short. If too short, it'll give a military look and if too long, like a rocker. Just a next door boy kind of hairstyle, love it!

Hello my friend zandi458 Ji, As per our traditions/customs, when we think of women, we think a lady with natural long hairs and a gentleman with short hairs on his head. We also add that both should be well maintained and may not be ready to take part in some variety show. There are natural aspects for all laid down and one must follow. There was a time, when bamboo pants/pipe pants were fashon, but sooner police satrted catching young boys and girls. These fashons keep rotating and I think, let it be left to purely an individual, who wants to voilate social norms. May God bless You an dhave a great time.

People are only following the latest fashion trend. Long hair used to top the list of rockers style and many men were adopting this long hair style when it was in voque.

Hello my friend zandi458 Ji, Well, your way of ideology is perfectly in order , but it is applicabeto latest fashon, whereas we are not latest. We are old enough to make our own way of living and continue the way we find be-fitting. So it is very difficult to adopt new culture of living. Next, life style changes now and then and we are unable to co-up.

I think it is all about the texture and nature of hair strands that varies from one man to another. People who don't have thick hair can afford to keep long hair because they would not feel uncomfortable in them. But men whose hair texture is thick, as it is in my case, it is really difficult to carry that extra load of hair on your head all the time. I think the trend of long hair could also be associated with cold and warm countries. People living in warm countries would often find it difficult to carry a thick growth of hair on their heads due to perspiration. While in cold countries, long hair would actually act as a shield to save your head from freezing cold air blowing around.

I agree with you. This statement of western influence has always been echoed in our country as bad influence for those who adopt long hair.

Hi zandi, Though not all you portrait trends did I see myself making the street hot I obviously remember the bell bottoms and the baggies. I was still in my high school when they were making the noise all around and I remember wearing a couple of beggie shirts. These are all past and now every fortnight pushing the current fashion into the background and new and trendy things are making their ways into the life specially of the teens. As for long hair for men I think I am not so much competent to comment on this. As this long hair trend is like pop in and pop out I see some people with long hair quite smart and some not suiting into it. Mine is curly hair and have never ever tried to grow it longer and I do not think even if I put them long it would make a poor show.

Hi raj, the bell bottoms and the baggies have in fact came back in fashion not too long ago. But it disappeared as fast as it resurfaced. Maybe the bell bottoms look so awkward that the new generation did not fancy wearing them unlike yesteryears when bell bottoms that sweep the road are viewed as the most-up-todate. When my sons look at my pictures in bell bottoms they couldn't stop laughing. But the hipster jeans now is no better then the bell bottoms. Long hairs are not for everyone. Professional man like you should have neat short hair like the picture you have now. You look much younger than your age.

Hi zandi, well personally speaking I've always gone for short hair on a man, and never given a consideration as to why. But it has to be dark though. In fact I couldn't even picture the men in my life with long hair, they just wouldn't look like them anymore. Not that I have anything against long hair on a man, in fact two younger acquaintainces of mine both had long flowing black locks which looked great on them and when they both went for the shop they actually looked smaller in height which was a bit weird. But my main priority remains that a man should always have chest hair.

I don't like long hair on men, I used to when I was younger. My best friend had the most beautiful black long hair I'd ever seen. As I grew older men just didn't look good with long hair.

I think it totally depends on the man. Some men look really gooood with long hair, and some look just as good with short hair. It's the same with women. I have short hair, and it looks good on me, but my mother has really really long hair and that looks good on her. It's different for everyone.

You're right, the style of hair depends on the face shape of individual. What may look good in one may not be good for the other.

Hi Zandi! Long hair may be a fashion statement and it may look tendy, however, I feel that a man looks more handsome in short hair rather than long and untidy hair. Me and my brother and now my son always preferred short hair and I feel that we look 'smart' in short hair. Again, choice will be different from person to person. Have a great day! Deepak

Men who opt to grow their hair should be able to manage their hair properly. So you and your son is having short hair, you definitely have set a good example. Like father like son, that is so true.

Personally I believe that short hair is much better than long hair as nowadays we are going for bald hair. So..I think the trend is getting a bit strange but hey long hair does seemed to be good one time ago. A very long time ago. I think things are just fine if it is short rather than going bald. What do you think? I have seen people opting for bald hair nowadays...when I saw your post I started thinking about this issue and I find it amusing that long hair can be a debatable topic..lol.. Don't mean to be mean or sarcastic(in a way). Just thinking maybe the tides of hair fashion has changed dramatically

Every turn of the season fashion changes and so is hairdos.Long or short hair doesn't matter as long as it fits the owner. Bald head is not so bad and it takes a little while to get used to seeing friends adopting to bald head.

Hey zandi! I think that you are funny! I happened to a very big fan of long hair on men! I loved it! I thought that men with long hair looked great! I was the ultimate hippie myself! I loved the Beatles and the Stones! And although they might not have been "pretty boys" (although I thought there was something hot about them) I loved that "look"! I still like men with longer hair, even to this day, although it no longer is in style, sadly! I guess it's because I grew up in that era and loved the clothes, music and everything else that went along with that particular time, although I never did like bell bottoms much! But, styles come and go and then come back again!

I am right there with you. Long hairs never really go out of fashion. The rockers would not look good in short hair. Part of the appeal to their music is their groovy appearance that send young fans screaming.
3 Sep 09
Its not a hard and fast rule. As you mentioned in your comments that its a fashion oriented world. The trends keep changing and guess what they are mostly running in circles. What was bad yesterday is good today and what is good today will be good again once its turn comes in the circle. I have seen long hairs for men as fashion sometime back. It was forbidden later one. Now again, its started with celebrities going all long haired. But then there is no guarentee that it will stay long either. Lets just go with the flow. Having a long or short hair hardly matters as long as you carry oneself the way he/she wants.

I agree with you that fashion and trend is traveling in circle. Yesterday's fashion might not appeal to the younger generation but once it hit the fashion world, it will draw everyone to try on the latest fashion.
