Obama to Recruit Your Kids to Support his Agenda

I have nothing against schools showing speeches from the president as part of the curricullum. There is nothing new about that, and if the speech is on topic with what the teacher is covering, it is very appropriate.
But Obama isn't just telling schools to show a speech, he is requiring teachers to help him indoctrinate students to support his agenda.
How?
Accompanying the speech he plans to make to our kids is a "Menu of Classroom Activities".
This "menu" prompts the teachers in activities for the students before, during and after the speech.
The activities are centered around teaching the kids that it is important to listen to, and support Prs. Obama and other elected officials. It never brings up anything about the importance of questioning them, or challenging them if they are doing something we feel is wrong.
Nothing is mentioned about the Constitution or its definition of the roles, restrictions or responsibilities of the President... only that it's important to support Prs. Obama.
What would have been the reaction if Prs. Bush, Reagan, or even Clinton tried this kind of propaganda?
Here is the entire "PreK-6 Menu of Classroom Activities: President Obama’s Address to Students Across America" Coming to a US Public RE-education Facility near you.

I read about this yesterday and spent some time trying to find out exactly what would be in the speech. Of course, the official press release is that it's all about encouraging children to get the most out of education. I have no problem with that.
But I would like to see a copy of the speech before my children view it. I would like to be there to explain to them anything that I disagree with. I don't think we will hear what is in the speech beforehand.
This is what I found in the materials for the grades 7-12 teacher extension activities:
"When you set a goal, you envision a target you are going to reach over time. Goals are best when they are Challenging, Attainable, and Needed (CAN)."
Is that CAN as in Yes, we Can? I don't think I like him using part of his campaign slogan in this. Either it's about him and his goals or it's about the kids.
Of course, by giving this speech and then setting up materials for teachers to use as guides for discussion and study, he's taking over the curriculum of all public schools. I don't really send my kids to school to learn as much as they can about Barack Obama. I was sort of hoping they might learn to read and write, do math, that sort of thing.
And I definitely don't feel comfortable with the whole idea that children need to learn to listen to politicians. Tell them to listen to the police officer, the teacher, the principal, their parents, but please don't indoctrinate them to think that politicians have to be listened to and supported. The purpose of education is to give children the building blocks of knowledge and the foundations upon which they will build by learning to think critically and form their own opinions.
This is where the official press release is:

I am still trying to decide if the kids should miss school that day or if I am being too paranoid. I wouldn't be perhaps, if we knew what he was going to say.

Rollo...the cirriculum of our schools was hijacked long ago. And we were bullied into accepting it. No one seemed to care...now they are getting very bold and teaching our children to inform on us.

I'm even a little leary of kids being told to listen to police etc. In big cities it is a well known fact that pedophiles use uniforms to lure children. My grandchildren are aware from an early age how to discern between someone trying to help and someone fooling them. Age appropriate is also a factor here. Seventh graders can tell when someone is trying to pull the wool over their eyes...but they still are impressionable and naive. They should have an adult there who does have their best interests at heart.

The curriculum already had its left leaning bias when I went to school, way back in the Dark Ages. I remember my 5th grade teacher chiseling out the words "Democrats want peace, Republicans want war" on his granite tablet. There weren't a whole lot of 10 year old Republicans by the end of that class. In high school, it got worse as the English teacher subjected us to numerous discussions of "situational ethics" and asked us to write about when it would be alright to steal, etc.
As for police officers, I know that there have been a lot of occasions where a perpetrator has impersonated one and not just to fool children. But aside from warnings about being sure you know who you're dealing with, I would like the kids to have a respect for the police instead of a disrespect. However, that's my old-fashioned memory of the police, that situation could change here if they implement a bill before the state legislature to allow warrantless search, seizure and arrest in cases of suspected contamination or non-compliance in the case of a swine flu emergency being declared by the governor.
I can't turn on the TV or read the news on the internet lately without finding something to be very wary of. It's getting harder and harder to believe I am just being paranoid, but I hope to God that's all it is. I would rather be crazy than right about what is happening in the US these days.

I don't have issues with them showing them his speeches or teaching them about our government. But I do have issues with teaching children "blind faith" in our elected officials. We should question our elected officials. If we feel they are doing wrong we should speak up. That is what is should be teaching our children.
Our government is suppost to represent us, do our wishes, followe our desires for how this country is run.....not dictate to us how they are going to do things.

I remember the controversy when teachers didn't even want to put up pics of Prs. Bush in the classroom.

I hit respond, but I really do not know what to say to that. I am not surprised, this makes perfect sense. If you can control what they are learning, then you can better control the future. Hopefully there are still some of us smart enough to teach our kids to think for themselves, question everything and never use only one source. I really do not know what else to say about that other than that Obama must be an alien, he cant possibly be sleeping, it takes time to mess up our country this thouroughly!

Here where I live the parents have raise so much heck over the speech, the schools have agreed to tape it and allow the students that want to watch it to do so, but other don't have to, then later on it will be decided if it should be shown to the whole school. It is about time that we as parents and adults started taking some interest in what is coming out of Washington. Yes he is trying to encourage the young to follow him, and he will start with kindergarden if he can. He being president of the United States could have a great impact on a young child as he wouldn't be president if he wasnt' right. I think the parents are doing right by making it plain that they don't want their children subject to this kind of thing. This man is insane, I believe that he should make it clear as to what an education will do for you and that you should stay in school and learn all that you can, because a high school diploma is worthless today. But that is as far as it should go. He should be concerned about education, wonder if his girls will hear this speech where they go to school. I feel sorry for his girls and what he is teaching them as to later in life. Seems to me more and more people are speaking out on what he tries to pull now. And I hope that it continues to be that way. We are the only ones that can stop him and his downfall of this country, he acts like he will always be president and that there will be no one after him. That what he speaks will be law from this day out. I don't know who he thinks he is, god maybe. The main problem here is we have listened to too many politicians already and believed what they say, time to really listen and under stand what they are saying word for word.

Sounds like you school has come up with a very reasonable plan. Glad to hear the parents are paying attention, and the school is listening.
