When people put LOL in an email...

Do you really laugh out loud or is that something you just type because it seems appropriate at the time?
I have a coworker who sits directly behind me, she replied to all in an email and put lol, but I didn't hear her laugh...is this something you do too?
Just curious.

Whenever I write "LOL", it is because I actually laughed. I will either write that, or I will write something like "heehee". But I won't write it just to write it.
