Do you visit the doctor EVERY time you're ill?

Normally when I'm ill, I'd just stay home, take lots of fluid, eat porridge and rest. When I sleep, I'd keep myself warm. I'll recover in a few days without having to see a doctor. I don't want to take too much of medicine. There are people who visit the doctor each time they're ill. What about you? Do you think it's necessary to see a doctor all the time?

I honestly don't go to the doctor's very often at all. Most of the time when I am feeling ill, it is a passing thing. If I give it a day or two I feel much better. When I am not feeling well I will try to drink a lot of water and I will eat very bland foods, like chicken broth soup, etc. If I'm not feeling better within a day or two then I will start to consider going to the doctor. The last time that I went to the doctor because I was sick was actually about 2.5 years ago. I had strep throat so really did need antibiotics.

Two-and-a-half years is really good!! Your immune system must be top notch, I guess. My longest record? One year without seeing a doctor, but I think as we get older, our immunity gets a bit lower so we're less resistant to some illnesses. I can't deny that there are a handful of people who have never seen a doctor in their lives!

I don't like to go to the doctor unless I've been sick for a while and I don't seem to be getting any better. I find the wait in the waiting room to be worse than just staying home in bad and sucking it up for a few days. My doctor doesn't like to perscribe anything unless you've given your body time to try and fight off the illness on its own anyways so there isn't really much of a point for me to go to the doctor too early on in a sickness.

You've a good doctor there. While most doctors would be happy to see as many patients as they could in a day, yours prefer not to prescribe anything as he cares for your body. He knows there are capable "soldiers" in your body that will fight their "enemies" till their very last breath. Good for you!

Hi kevchua, I will rarely visit doctor if i am much ill. If not, i will recover myself taking rest bit by bit. I never have interest on medicines too. I took medicines very very rarely like stomach ache, high fever, etc., Just for ordinary cough or fever, i will never go to doctor or i wont take any medicines. Happy Postings! Have a nice time!

no i dont visit the doctor every time i am ill. what i do is i take some medicine, the kind depends on what i am feeling at the moment. i always keep some over the counter medicines here at home just for that purpose. paracetamol, mefenamic acid, capsule for coughs and colds, etc. taking a rest and drinking lots of fluids and the medicine helps in making me well. no need for doctor visit. i only take a visit to the doc when i find that what i am having is not really normal.

I have never been to a doctor in my life. When i was small my father used to give me tablets during the times when i took ill, but when i grew up i stopped taking medicines but i eat porridge, drink hot water, take complete rest etc...But i have some friends who go to the doctor for even a small head ache.

I only go to the doctor if i am feeling very ill and am concerned. Most of the time if i am ill I try to look after myself at home - lots of rest, keep hydrated, take painkillers etc. Leave the doctor for people who are really ill, most of the time you will get better just fine in a matter of days.

No, i don't go to the doctor every time, that i am sick. What i do though, is as soon as i start feeling bad, i take 3 of the 500mg vitamin c, which helps to ward of sickness. It usually works quite well. I take vitamin e also. I usually try to keep extra medicines in the house, for when those times come, that i feel like i may be getting ill, and then i start taking the medicines ahead of time, to keep from getting really sick.

No I don't normally do this! I try have a little faith in the anatomy of the body! In time things improve if it's nothing too serious. If I am experiencing serious pain or anything like though then I don't see any harm in visiting the doctor. I have a tremendous amount of respect for our doctors and I just don't know how they handle all the stress. Anyway, I have been feeling ok and have not been ill in a long while now so I'm kind of hoping that things remain this way! Andrew

If it is a normal cough and cold or fever,we can rely on home remedies apart from taking rest which will cure us easily. But if it is going to exist for days without getting cure, then we have to visit the doctor without making further delays.Home remedies and rest can help to some extent alone.Cheers!

I do not visit the doctor every time I am ill. I don't get sick very often, but when I do, I usually let the illness run its course. Doctors will usually tell you to do that anyways, so why not save that money used for a co-pay? Illnesses such as strep throat require antibiotics to treat, so if I feel I have such an illness, I will go to the doctor. So, I only go to the doctor if it is ABSOLUTELY necessary.

I don't normally get sick, too but when I do, it's usually bad but I still let my body recover on its own. However, if I need to work and the illness is bugging me, then I'd have to see a doctor.

Kev, I am a witch and I try to hocus pocus my way back to health. If that does not work, and I am still ill, I'll have to give in to modern technology and go see a doctor. I dislike taking oral medicines. I dont mind being given the jab but I've never like oral medications, especially the tablets. I find it hard to swallow..

Hi Merryn Hocus pocus eh? Hmm, is there a Harry Potter with his magic wand in the house? It's best to let our own antibodies fight those viruses. We have good soldiers in our body, so make them work. When it comes to taking medicine, if I've to bite it, I will!!

Basically,I don't go to doctor until I feel the pain is undurable. When I have a fever ,I will have good rest.Sleeping for eight hours a day is very effective.I will have plenty of water as well, about 2L per day.I want my natural immunity can fight with the bacteria.Usually,I can recover in ten days. And I willbe refreshed after a few days.

No. I also do the same things as you when I feel ill. Also, since I'm a pharmacist, I'm familiar with over the counter medications and natural remedies that I may use/take. =))

No, I do not go to the doctor every time I am. I always give myself a day or two to recover. If all fails, I visit the doctor. I would usually take the day off and just rest at home. Hot drinks and tv. Is it necessary? Well I feel that it is necessary at times as the condition may be bad and worsening by the second. However, due to the high cost for healthcare, I personally feel that going to the doctor for minor illnesses is a waste of money.

Hello kevchua. I don't go to see a doctor unless I am really ill like yesterday when I had a high fever together with a sore throat and cough. Usually I take some capsules when I find I am ill. I had blood test, IV yesterday in the hospital and it was very expensive to be ill because I paid a lot for it. I must stay healthy not to be ill.

Not at all I don't have health insurance but even when I did I only went to the doctors when I was seriously ill. The flu or cold I did what you did. Plenty of fluids. I would take nyquil and chicken soup. I also don't like taking to many pills since I'm quite sensitive to medicine. Even with the Nyquil I can only take half the dosage.

When growing up, I trusted doctors, and thought they could solve all my problems. However, when I was 26, I started having very strange, inexplicable problems. That began my 1.5 year odyssey of seeing my HMO doctors until they figured out what was wrong. (It turns out I had Multiple Sclerosis aka MS.) I now do as much research on my own as I can, and self-treat, especially if flu or common colds or viruses are involved. Now, I only see my neurologist once a year, whether I need it or not, and I only see my GP if I absolutely, positively, absolutely must see her!
