It was already broken...

Back to my student days in Germany. One of the girls in our group was dating a German medical student (Lutz?) and we had gone out drinking. I ordered a beer and when it came there was a slight crack in the glass. We tried to get the waiter's attention to bring me another one, but it was crowded. So what the heck, I drank it. Well, I am clumsy sometimes. The beer was half gone and I turned and knocked the glass over and it broke. Stupid waiter came running over. Oh yeah, suddenly he was available! And he tried to make me pay for it! Yes he did! Well at least we had these German guys with us who weren't going to take any crap and they told the waiter that the glass was already broken and go bring me another beer before they start complaining to the manager. Did you ever have a restaurant or anybody try and pull something like that on you?

i'm surprised that kind of things could happen in Germany. How generous the waiter was. I have never met the similar situation but i did read some articles talking about it. For this kind of things we as consumer better not to argue with them. if the money is big better to report to the police. you were lucky at last it ended without any cost, but one of my friends was beat by a bodygard when he was blackmailed. it was a sad story. I was told better to visit pub or restraunt where the local visit a lot not tourist places.

hi dawnald hatley here this reminds me of the time that I complained to the manager about myu baked potato not being even warm. so rthe waitress took the cold baked potato and warmed it up but on opening it up all the way I found to my utter disgust a large wad of human hair in it. Yuck yuck. So my husband got the manager again and showed him the hunk of human hair. He bellowed the name of the waitress, come here. why did you do this, look its off of your head.you are fired he got another waitress and she brought me a nice hot baked potato with sour cream and chives. When my husband went to pay for our dinners he said you dont need to pay you earned it i am just sorry all this happened.

Hi dawnald, No, but I have pulled the fast one on the waiter in a buger bar many years ago with my friend, we both had a meal but didn't enough money on us and the waiter fancied my friend and they got chatted, after about half hour we both left without paying at all, hehe, he forgot to ask us for the money, he was so smithin with my friend. Few years later they were married. Tamara

i experienced some poor service too but not to the point that i would be blamed for something like breaking a glass or something. i know that it could happen not to only some people. cause there are lots of waiters and restaurants that does not have good customer service. it just seems specially here in my country, that they are more concerned in earning them more money than giving back to customers a satisfying service they deserve for what they had paid for in the first place. as much as possible if i can just keep quite and not to act like a very demanding cusctomer, i would do so though i have the right to complain if any like that happens cause i also think of the waiter. i know he would pay out of his pocker for whatever damage or mistake he made. like before i was given the wrong order and so he was pleading if we could take what he served instead cause he would pay for it if he will bring back that order to the kitchen and make or brought what we originally ordered. and it since it was no big deal to me, it is only food and what i ordered was not any food that i really liked so i just accept what i had on my table which is just about a little more expensive but nothing too high that i can't afford to pay.

Sometimes I will accept a wrong order, sometimes not. Depends on what they bring and whether I like it vs how much I really wanted what I actually ordered. Sometimes it just isn't worth waiting for them to get it right and in this country they often comp you for the meal when something like that happens!

I have not experience something like that yet. But if time comes that a waiter blame me for something I did not even did. Well, there will be a rumble in the club(laugh). I really hate to take a blame for a mistake that I did not even did.
