'I'm Bored!' Do you get that from your child?

My daughter has been calling me at work to complain that she is bored! I've told her to pack her bag with activities to occupy her time while she stays at my friend's house. It's only a few days until school starts. Today I made sure she packed enough books, puzzles, games, crafts etc. Thankfully she didn't call. She normally has tons of stuff to do in her back, but for some reason won't open her bag. Do you get the "I'm bored" whine from your children?

Hi realan, I'm a stay at home mom and I have 4 children, 3 staying with me. My youngest always does that complaining she's got nothing to do and that she's bored and that's during the weekend when there's no school. It gets worst during the school holidays. And this was before my husband started to rear some chickens at home. Now that we have a brood of chickens, she's stopped complaining about being bored and is always outside playing with the chicks. But when it's raining that's when the whining will start again. I bought her many activity books but she gets bored easily doing those. Then she'll bother her older sisters and they get into fights. And I have to be the referee. It's tiresome being a parent but what to do. It has its perks too when your child tells you she loves you and hugs you. It'll really make my day.

Hi! Yes they do get very bored when school is out. Our school starts this week, so this should put an end to my daughter's boredom. I agree the best part of being a parent is all those little moments that touch your heart. It is worth all the sacrifices. Thank you so much for sharing!

Hi! I also pack activities for my daughter. She got very restless this summer. I tried to keep her as busy as I could, but she still got bored a few times. School is starting this week, so hopefully she will stop complaining about boredom. Thanks so much for your post.

I am an adult and whine about this all the time!! I work with kids and I hear it constantly from them. If possible, plan an activity with your daughter that she could look forward to working on at your friend's house. For example, build up the hype surrounding a colouring project, a beading project, or something similar depending on her age. (let her help you choose.) Then, if she is excited enough, she might work on it for long periods of time. Of course, this doesn't work with all kids...
