These days, my manager go to office quite often and always stay late. Is it necessary to stay until your manager leave? I don't really like that, but lots of my colleague do that. How do you think about it?

I am not obbliged to stay to wait for my boss to finish. I believe that as long as I have done my share of work for the day, I am free to go when it is my time off. But in cases that my boss will request me to stay and wait for her. Then I will stay but would make sure that it is because of work.

no, it's not that necessary. it depends on what work you still have there, can you finish it tomorrow or you have to finish it right on that day. as for the manager, maybe he/she has more jobs than you, that's why they need to be there longer than you.
if me, because i'm working on an event sometimes, i would stay there longer to finish my work. we're all working on it together, preparing anything, makes it even better, specially we have a deadline to held the event and we all wants it to be perfect lol..
it is tiring sometimes, but if we see the good result, it's worthed to stay at the office longer lol..

It does kind of drive me nuts when management and supervisors do this...This says a few different things.... They could just be lazy, their work could be done, or they could be showing that they trust you to leave you unsupervised to complete your work without having to have someone look after you. However, if their job is done, and they're not required to stay late... I've never managed to get a job as a supervisor or in management where I was allowed to leave early. I always had to stay late and wipe the arses of those who were too stupid to do it themselves, per se.
