When we are young, most of us have hobbies like stamp collecting, collect comics, barbie dolls, foreign currencies and coins, etc. My eldest brother love to collect movie tickets and stubs. They are special movie tickets with picture on it eg. 'Gone With the Wind'. For myself, I like to collect stickers, stationeries, stamps and erasers. My eldest brother-in-law loves to collects VCDs, DVDs...the number of VCDs he has which he even code it with titles systematically is easily more thatn a VCDs shop. Do share with us what is your favourite collection. It could be actress photos, money, shares....when you are young or even now....you can even share about some one's else collection like antiques, paintings, game cards...

Hi Iriene, I've never had a tendedency to collect anything like the things you name as to me one day it could be a collection and the next a big pile of junk cluttering everything. The only thing I have ever collected consistently is books and wil regret always paring them down on one house move. I was even able to pass down many of my own old books to my son and he collects them too

Ha, but my son insists on collecting the next pile of junk which is whatever cards are the latest craze amongst him and his friends. Maybe when he's bored of them all I should pack them away somewhere safe and one day they could be collectors items.

Dear Thea, You are very practical since young, you are aware that all this 'collections' will one day be a pile of 'junk'. True enough, I have a friend who collect all the beautiful letter pads...but as times goes by, the paper turn yellowish. She thrown many away or just be scrap paper. What a waste, because to buy all this 'letter writing pads' is not cheap. All her pocket money went into this hobby of hers, if she had keep all those money in the bank, it would earned her some interest or dividends. Anyway, these beautiful writing pads did bring her joy...which is 'priceless' Thanks for sharing and take care!

Over the years I have collected matches. When we would visit a hotel over our travels, I'd make sure we left with matches as a little souvenir. Then it came to the point we couldn't take matches on the airplane so that collection had to stop when we traveled by air. I do have quite a collection of Elvis Presley items in the computer room. Have a wall dedicated to him full of calendars, mouse pads and a clock. He is my idol! As a kid I collected comic books. Wish now my mother wouldn't have thrown them away since they are worth alot of money.

Dear carolbee, I too collect those matches from the hotel. But it seems been used up by my family members or was thrown away when I am away. This happened when they shifted house...poor matches. I think may be you can still collect those matches by putting it in the check-in luggage but not so sure about it.. I am now collecting hotels' soap...lol

When I was small I used to collect stamps and I am happy to have done so because when I look at my collection of stamps today I feel really happy, now I am collecting the horror movies and I have already some 73 at home so hope I get many as possible.

Dear med, Me too, when I was young I collected quite a number of stamps. Some I got from my brothers, some from penpal or pen friends and some bought from book shops. I used to bring to school and do some exchange with friends. I have passed all those stamp albums to my son. He continue this hobby of mine. My eldest sister will give some to him too. Wow, now you are collecting horror movies? Do you collect those foreign language horror movies? Horror movies from Thailand and Japan are very scary and creepy too. Yesterday, on the television, they showed a Japanese Horror Movie about sending sms to the 'victim-to-be', if the victim do not want to die, he/she has to forward the sms to another person...it seems the spirit control the spam mail and select the 'would be victim'... The title is called : Final 'Miss Call' All the best and take care !

When i was in college i used to collect novels of Sheldon, Grisham and Brown. I love the fast-paced story of Sheldon and it's page turning scenes. Grisham on the other hand, the rebuttal and techniques of each of the characters inside the court. Brown's controversial books were all great for me. It made me think that some of his writings were true. The three authors way of writing is superb. It's seems that they can back up their claim in every single line they write.

Dear underdogy, Wow, you really read well and a 'learned' person! Great hobby, valuable collections..Keep it up I missed all those novels...I only read 'Fables'...lol So, what I did to cath up with all this 'lost' in time on fantastic, suspense novels? I watched movies like 'National Treasure 1 & 2', Night at the Museum 1 & 2', 'The Bourne : Ultimatum" 'Mummy Return' etc.. Thanks for sharing, I truly enjoy reading your response, do keep in touch :)

Thank you for enjoying my comment, i did enjoy yours too. Anyhow, the movies that you have watched were all great. Bourn?? I love that movie. One of my favorites actually. Reading is really a nice hobby and even if it is not my favorite thing to do, it is one of the things that i enjoy. I commented in a previous discussion about reading, that it will take you places for free and learn the culture of the places you have been to. Even if you never been to the countries mentioned in the book literally, the author will surely give you a ride in those countries because their way of writing is far beyond imagination, crafted with power of believing hehe. As if you were part of the story..I'll keep in touch!

Although not a proper collection in the sense of the word, I have a habit of holding onto every video-game (save the particularly terrible titles) and gaming system that I have purchased over the years. Thinking about it now, I am thrilled at my decision not to give up any of my various gaming-related items, because now I rarely find myself without entertainment during those agonizing times I find myself house-bound, either by the weather or lack of company to roam about with, because I simply rummage through my gaming stack and have a blast on a video-game that I haven't played in years. It certainly reminds me of the joys of being a young kid again. ~Mr. Kennedy~

Hello Cupid. Collecting stamps is a good hobby. I don't have stamp collection until one day my cousin sister hand me down all her collections of stamps. I was so excited at the beginning on the hand me downs. But I don't know what can I do with the stamps. Once in a while I did take out all the stamps to take a look on them. I would take some time to arrange the stamps in the album according to the country name. I have almost more than 1000 stamps from different countries in the world. But now because I don't have any interest in stamps, it is all keep in my drawer at home for quite a long times already. Maybe I need to pass this stamps to some one who know how to appreciate... Happy Mylotting!

Dear Cupid and Vingyan, Hahaha , if you can't find anyone to pass down all those thousands of stamps from more than a 200 countries, just remember me...I will bear the postage...LOL One of my 2nd brother's friend brought his stamps collection and 'first-day cover' to Singapore to the 'stamp expert' for valuation. It seems his collections are worth thousands of dollars So, quickly look for your stamps ~ they are valuable! My son is continuing collecting stamps which I had passed down to him. When we are in Malaga, the birth place of Pablo Picasso...my son was so excited to see the stamps that feature Pablo Picasso painting. He bought 3 pces of stamp, the stamps seller give one special Pabloc Picasso stamp to him...he is so HAPPY! All the best, love to hear from you all, it is indeed very exciting, keep it up!

Hobby of collecting, I have discontinue for all. What a sad thing it is. Simply no time and no motivation. In my young days, I used to collect stamps, postcards, red packets, paper bags, badges, stickers, cute erasers, bookmarks, special keychains. I think these are those collection I remembered I have. Stamps is the most I play with it as I got a few cousins to exchange with me and for postcards all those, when I got time I will take it out and admire them one by one and at the same time clean them too. As for now, part of the collection are still around and my mum always said those are rubbish cause I'm not appreciated them anymore.

Hi Iriene, I don't buy red packets, only collect those cute one with cartoon and special one design from banks. I have stop collecting it now, as I don't receive 'ang pau' anymore; got to give ang pau now :P I still will check through those packets got back by my boy, but don't really have the heart to keep them anymore. What a waste to stop this habit. Thanks for reminding me on the stamps and first day covers. Last time I really spend lots of effort in collecting and buying them. I almost want to sell it or give it away awhile ago when I did my spring cleaning. I think I should keep it then and earn some big money next time. But wondering is there any stamp evaluator in Malaysia.

Dear lemonjude, Hahaha , thanks for reminding me that in actual fact I am still collecting 'something' which I only remember during the month of Chinese New Year. You are right!...'ang pau' packets. At times my friends will give me some because they knew I collect them...I like those foreign bank 'ang pau' packets expecially from OCBC bank. Some of my friends even buy from 'Pasar Malam' (night market) those 'Hello Kitty' ang pau packets and many unique ones too! But I do not buy them, some from Singapore banks and malls are beautiful too.... Hang on to your stamps! One of my 2nd brother's friend brought his stamps collection and 'first-day cover' to Singapore to the 'stamp expert' for valuation. It seems his collections are worth thousands of dollars. You can pass down your stamps collections to your children in the future. It might worth a lot more by then! Thanks and take care!

Hi, I personally collect matches before. But now I only collect hotel's soap and toiletries. However, due to shelf life, I decided to use all the miniature bottles of toiletries to wash my clothes. But I did keep the empty bottles ~ Mickey Mouse bottle from Disney hotel is quite cute. My son is collecting movie tickets, those that are special printed with the movie picture with date, time and venue of the premier screening!

Dear James, Collecting hotel brand matches and toiletries... that is unique, practical and interesting too. What a coincidence, my son loves to collect those beautiful premier movie tickets, movie premiums, and movie DVDs etc. He likes to join those movie contest organised by Bloggers / Nuffnang, magazines, tv channels and radios just to win the movie premier tickets, special screening tickets and sneak preview tickets. He prefer all these tickets because it is made of hard copy card, colourful with the movie picture on it.

Hello Iriene, When I was young, I never collect anything. My favourite hobby was just playing "masak-masak". I saw my sister love collecting stamps and I always wonder what is the fun of collecting stamps and exchanging it with friends. But now I know... I love collecting stickers. I have stickers that with cartoon character in it and some are only words stickers, but I just never missed any opportunity to grab nice and cute stickers whenever I go shopping. You love to collect stationeries? This is a very unique hobby.

Dear shuetyeng, Collecting stickers are still popular till today. If you go to any 'pasar malam' (night market) you can sepecial stall mainly selling stickers, all sort of stickers. I love those from Korea, Taiwan and Japan. The quality are better, you can find this at 'Living Cabin' Now I 'upgraded' myself to collect tiles sticker - to me it is still sticker coz it stick.. Actually there are decorative which we can stick on our bathroom tiles and kitchen tiles. I bought some in Korea. They are beautiful, instead of stick it onto the tiles, I use them for handy craft.. Playing 'masak-masak' is fun too, it is actually 'practical' training for the role of future 'home maker' :) Tks for sharing, will drop by & see your latest topic!

Actually at first, I just bought stickers for fun but later on become obsessed to it and ended up buying more and more. It is still a popular hobby? I thought I am the only one that has an outdated hobby. Last time, I used to buy stickers from night market too because they are selling at a cheaper price as compared to shopping mall, but there are not many variety available. I wonder how do we know that the stickers are from other countries? I love shopping at Living Cabin, and thanks for the info, I will surely look for the stickers there. I have one big piece of cartoon tiles sticker from my friend. I am still keeping it because it is very cute and very "sayang" to use it. I think I have spent a lot of time in playing "masak-masak" last time, see who am I now..A 24/7 Stay At Home Mom. LOL.

Stamps collecting are very popular every now and then. My eldest brother and sister had great collections of stamps when we were very young. So, I was influenced by them where I bought my own stamp album and stamps I collected were mostly from my pen pals or sometimes, I just 'took' a few pieces from my bro and sis' collections to add into mine. Other than that, there were other things I used to collect such as marbles and cards. That was a long time ago when I was still in elementary school. When I was in my teen, I loved to collect magazines and I have run out of place to keep them! If I am not mistaken, some of them are still inside some boxes somewhere in the house! Right now, I love to collect fridge magnets. Most of them I personally bought from the countries or other states in Malaysia that I have visited. They are very special because I handpicked them, but too bad I did not manage to get one from Italy when I visited that country a few years back.

Dear corrycrystal, Oh yes, you remind me of fridge magnet. Whenever I travelled, many of our group members who travel together love to buy fridge magnets for their friends and relatives. Some of them bought for themselves. I remembered someone told me that her fridge is full with magnets until no more space to stick It is small and easy to carry as souvenirs. I hope you will visit to Italy again and personally hand-picked a beautiful fridge magnet. Oh yes, there are quite a number of beautiful fridge magnets in London, cost about 1 pound for one. It is the snow ball type where the snow flakes in a liquid casing with London landmarks as background. Thanks for sharing and have a great weekend :)

collections.. don't you think you need lots and lots of patience for it.. and when it's collected, it's precious, but once we just stop collecting, it can be junk sitting in our display.. I used to collect country currencies, however a few years back, a break in happen in my house, and the fler took all the money (and mind you, some of them aren't useful anymore).. and I do have some collection of my favourite artists which now all are being just kept at the side.. wondering what to do with them.. I think somehow, ones collection fever will slow down once they feel that it's enough, and I was really amazed that your BIL even code the titles.. good for him and you guys too.. at least you have a place to 'rent' DVD and VCD..

Hi Iriene88, I started to collect stamps from England ages ago. Some of them I kept for ages but do not know what value they might have apart from the fact I love the pictures on the stamps, the designs. Only a while back this country has started to make their stamps more interesting than always putting General Franco on the front all the time. I had to move house so I lost quite a lot of them without wanting to. Also collect Christmas Cards and Holiday Postcards and sometimes Birthday Cards. I hope to be able to collect coins but have not had any luck yet.
