I hear people venting their Mexican flu panic here all over the place on mylot. There is no reason for this. If you're healthy and live in fairly good hygiene circumstances then the normal flu is even more dangerous than this swine flu. Don't let your government indoctrinate you. It's said that any future vaccines for the swine flu / mexican flu is even more dangerous than the flu itself... Want proof about the severity of the flu??? http://articles.latimes.com/2009/apr/30/science/sci-swine-reality30 ( written on the 30th of april... it was already clear from the first moment that this swine flu is mild) http://hubpages.com/hub/Swine-flu-is-not-dangerous-if-you-live-in-the-uk Okay enough evidence for now... Do you think that people are exaggerating about the severity of the swine flu?

I agree that the Mexican Flu is less harmfull than a lot of people think. The tricky thing is that it spreads fast, and because of this more people get this flu than any other pandemic flu that spreads pretty much every year. Because of this deathrates increase accordingly; people who have very low immunity or are very young / very old have a higher risk of getting pretty sick by this flu. I don't think people are exaggerting, I believe people are scared by the word pandemic flu and by the fact that there is so much attention in the news. If they talk about it this much, it must be terrible? Well, financially: yes! If a large percentage of employees gets sick that's not good for the economy and not good for the overall flow. I think we'll be fine...

What a wonderfull reply, sincerely. I do think that the media attention causes people to be more stressed out and stress is known for lowering our immune system. That way it could be a direct cause of us being more open for the flu or other diseases.

I believe yes. Dengue fever is a lot deadlier than swine flu. The only scary thing about swine flu is its virulence or its swift capability to infect a whole community. Furthermore, it is a tricky virus because the symptoms show up late.

It spreads very fast indeed but in essence that doesn't make us doomed or something even though some people might think different.

Well what alarms many about this flu is how easily it is transmitted from person to person and you are right about getting yourself have a good immune system working for you. With the introduction of the new vaccine the cases may also be reduced further. There is one thing that also is dangerous about this virus. if they victimized those that have low immune system they are quite deadly too like the children and the elderly.

I think that people exagerate with items when it´s politically convenient. The US has had immigration problems with Mexico: the flu grows and becomes more dangerous. It also happens everywhere and in every country with frontiers with another. As for flus in general, I believe that a person that has eaten well all their life, that has followed hygienic measures always, doesn´t need to worry. I live surrounted by people who will not sneeze in anyone´s face. And I don´t drink from the same bottle of another person, even if they are my daughters. I wash glasses with detergent: they might LOOK clean ,but they are full of germs. That´s common sense. I´m 64 and I won´t have any kind of flu and will not have a flu shot. I have already talked to my inmune system to behave. Take care

Mixed messages. It's certainly difficult to know for sure. Check the facts with the CDC government site, ask you personal physician, and stay aware of illness indicators in your family and friends. And as they say, 'wash your hands.' That's about all we can do until we know for sure. Better to be prepared in any case.

Preparation and awareness is absolutely important that's true. But exaggeration in preparation and awareness leads to panic. Panic is as we all know very dangerous. Perhaps even more dangerous than the flu itself. I've heard of people staying home because of the mexican flu. There is no valid reason to do this. Just make sure you stay healthy take basic precautions such as washing your hands, using disposable hand kerchiefs and in case you might catch the swine flu the chances of survival are big.
