yeah I am satisfied with the speed of my computer I have 1.5 mb of ram and a bit small hard disk 80gb. my processor is core2dou with 2.4 ghz it fits my needs. overclocking may require another fan and smoothing of the heat sink for better absorb of heat from the processor so if she/he is not highly technical that will cause a great problem... hehehe! overclocking will turn to upgrading because the system malfunction or burned-out.. so I prefer to just upgrade your RAM, delete all your temporary files and disable services that is not useful for you. here is reference of the services you may think you don't need. www dot jasoon dot com/turn_off_unnecessary_services_on_windows_xp hope that might help you speed up.. or one thing more try having a registry cleaner to clean your registry! because it is one of the factor that slows down your pc.

there are many reasons why a computer is slow. It can attributed to CPU, memory (RAM), video card, and hard disk. These are common reasons except if your computer is infected with virus. CPU- if your cpu is 2Ghz and above then thats fine even if its dual core. core 2 duo is better, and higher CPU like quad core and intel i7 much faster. Memory - memories are used as temporary storage of data for currently opened and frequenly used program. the cpu has a faster access time reading into ram rather than the hard disk. Even if you have a very fast cpu but your memory is low, the processing might be slower. Video card - video cards can be sometimes refered as GPU (graphics processing unit). This is used to processing video or graphics. instead of passing the burden to the CPU to process the these kind of data, GPU handles this task. it has also its own memory, so the higher the better (try nvidia). Hard disk - hard disks have its specs given by the capacity and rpm. RPM means rotation per minute, so the higher the better, because it can search the data you wanted faster. but higher rpm tends to be noisy and produce heat. Very high RPM is not good for laptops due to said reasons and in addition it consumes more battery. Hard disk speed is noticeable during start up were start up programs load. Others are softwares. There are some anti virus that consumes too much resources (AVG 8 ) consumes much memory and cpu specially during scanning the hard drives

The best way to increase the speed of computer with less cost is memory upgrade. More memory will have a noticiable increase the way windows load. You can try overclocking but be careful, overclocking will create additional heat for your pc, you have to add extra fan for that, and there is always a chance of frying your processor. You can add water cooling system, but it will cost you more than memory upgrade. But if your computer seems to be quite good when you buy it, then try reinstalling the operating system, repartition it before you format to make sure that it will be fresh. Reformatting will do, but i prefer to repartition first. but before doing so, try to back up your important files.

ya speed is the thing which really matters in the competitive world. i have a pc with 4 gb ram and 150 gb harddisk ya its a bit fast. but i have experienced that as the system configuration increases even the highest ram will fail.

This steps can increase your pc speed though not much. DO not create more than 5 desktop items less the desktop items your windows will load faster, remove all files from the temp(local setting) and prefetch(windows) folder or try softwares like rambooster. :)

For good computer speed you need good configuration of PC.What is your PC configuration? you can't expect a good speed from a low end processor.so if you have an old processor upgrade it to a better one. Also sometimes Viruses, Trojans etc slows down a PC so better scan completely with a good antivirus updated software.Download CCleaner it also checks for Old registry entries and deletes them also deletes the Temporary files from your PC which will really help in speeding up the computer. Or you better format your Operating System and install again that also helps a lot. Also you can over clock your processor if it supports it but has a high risk of getting burned so better avoid that option if you don't know about it.

I also not at all satisfied with the speed of my system. If you want to speed up the system delete the temporary files frequently and also don't have many icons in the desktop. Defragment once or twice a week. Also, increase the virtual memory of the system. Install antivirus which use less resources. Even if you are not satisfied you can buy a RAM for your system.May i know what is your current system configuration? Have a great day.
