What is your biggest purchase lately?

I know we spend money on a daily basis..we don't really count that as we purchase food, toiletries, ....stuff that we need every day... however once in a while, we make big purchases that does make an obvious reduciton in our savings...and I feal bad when i look at my bankbook or ATM slip after... however, some of the big purchases are necessary too, and no matter how much we don't wanna spend much.we have to... or even if they might not be that necessary, but they are worth it... like on the 18th of August...it was my son's 14th birthday... I have been saving money all the time and i watch my finances closely...i do make sure he has what he needs but nothing more... I haven't gotten him anything special in a long time... so i decided to buy him a flat screen monitor for his computer (the old one he has is hideous and eats up the whole table since it is as big as old television sets), his speakers were broken for months now so I got him cool tower speakers, then our printer for years and years finally retired...and he needs it for hid assignments and school works, so idecided to get him the 3-in-1 printer: the one tht can scan, photocopy, and print...and finally I got him a cool black computer table so i can get rid of the old table and make his room more spacious... i got everything in black including the computer table... teen-agers love that I let him leave for school then i went out to buy the birthday presents... I paid a lot for it... I took 'em home and set it up in his room... he came home and was so happy for his birthday present..... i felt the money i spent is soooo worth it.... that was my latest biggest purchase... what did you buy lately that you paid much for?

Wow, your son is so lucky to have a mom like you! I would be making good grades for that gesture you did. Hmmm, big purchases lately.. have to think a bit about it.. My last big purchase would be when I got a book photocopied and binded. With that, I think I bougt my brother a new pair of sandals.. I don't know how much I spent with those things but, it felt good buying my brother something new.. I still had a few savings kept for anything necessary but, I always keep on thinking of what I could actually buy later on. I keep on thinking that if I buy something, would I really use it alot later or it would just collect dust after a few days.. its really hard.. whenever I think I have saved much, I end up thinking that I can save more and when I'm thinking about buying something, I think that I should still save for something better. The process seems to repeat again and again so I just end up buying the things that we need most often and never get to save much (^_^")

That feeling whenever we get to give something to someone we care about. Or perhaps to any person that we could help. The saying really does prove its meaning, "Its better to give than to receive." since it seems to imply that we can still get by with the other things we concern ourselves with while giving something like a gift to other people. I wish that I could really earn a lot and really get to set aside a lot of money, say deposit it in a bank for time deposit, forget about it after a few months and get reminded later that the amount had increased.. say after a couple of years? Of course, that is still an idea in my head and I haven't attempted it. Saving money is really hard, especially when something unexpected strikes you when you least expect it so, we really need to take care of ourselves. Getting sick is one of those things that would easily consume any savings that you have set aside.

oh yeah..you just reminded me there... i tend to plan so much for the poeple i care about...but i often forget about myself..i never really set aside something for me... I mean there is money in the ban but i put in on a trust fun under my son's name...that is good though... the liquid money i have, i save for real needs.... but i never thought of setting something for myself in case i get terribly sick or anything like that.,.. the most i have is my health insirance which is not that big....

hey there my good friend ratyz!!! sure does feel nice whe you show up on my discussions... thanks about being a good mom...my son told me so too...he's lucky to have me..oh you have no idea how great it felt when i he said that. you know you are so right about things... we try to save up and save up...yet we are actually spending our money before we even earn them because we are saving up but we already have something in mind to buy when our money comes... so basically, we don't have the money in our hands yet..but we spent it already somehow.....

Last week me and My husband were shopping in wal-mart and I saw a bike ,one of the old fashioned ones with the pedal brakes . and I had always wanted one. so my husband suprised me and told me if I wanted it , we could go ahead and get it. I was really happy.. I had not bought anything for myself like that in a long time so, we bought and brought it home and it was late that night when we got home from wal-mart and as soon as we got home, I had to take it for a ride, even though it was dark I rode it in our court.. while my husband watched.. I felt like a happy little kid who had just got a new toy. so I rode it again the next day and realized just how out I shape I am, it had been years since I rode a bike, I had just started walking to the park trying to get back in shape. so i am loving this I cant wait to have more time to ride it again.. it being labor day weekend and all I have had company and have not had a chance to ride it again. but im sure next week I will be back on it again.. of course I thanked my husband for the wownderful gift... I think the smile on my face said it all.. :)

My two last big purchases were my car (used of course- and quite a bit older) and my new laptop. Both were necessary so I average them through their lifespan so I can budget for the future replacement costs.

I don't buy new cars, they not only cost too much money but they lose too much value when you drive them off the lot! Besides the fact that the car I really needed was a station wagon and they are hard to find brand new... and I'm not about to pay $16,000 USD for a car!!! I have a lot of other places that the money would do more good.

I don't know when I can ever get myself a brand new car... it would take me years and years to save up for it,and I'm not sure if i will ever come up with the money. cars--- and laptops----- they're a necessity nowadays.... so your purchases are well wirth your money! I'm happy for you!

Hi patofgold Waw, I'm sure you really love your son! That was a wonderful present! I'm sure your son really surprised and happy after see his new room I haven't purchased anything which is as expensive as yours lately. Maybe just buy many books for college (but it's use my parents money).. Oh, I buy my favorite novel, The Winner Stands Alone, written by my favorite author, Paulo Coelho It cost $5, I feel really happy! Sorry for private question here, but have you received any new message from me yesterday? I'm sure I've wrote it to you yesterday but I didn't see it in my message tab.. Do you receive it?

Yes, that's what I mean, I write to you new message after that. Sorry patofgold, I don't mean to ignore you.. I find that seems like you're angry with me from your comment... I'm 17 too know and try to make money online.. I see, that's why you become such a strong and responsive person.. Nice to hear you and your son can live well now, not like most young mother who prefer to put his child in orphanage. Good work, and good luck

yeah i did... and replied to you like twice...but you didn't write back..maybe you mussed the send button or something... you can PM me again anytime though.... == as far as puchases go... you can always start earning your own money chrys.... I started making my own money at 17... I had a son early so I learned to stand on my own and be strong, be wise..and always on the outlook for opportunities... that is why I am this way now....

Wow, your son is a lucky kid to have a wonderful mom like you! A complete set together with paraphernalia is expensive. I bet your son will be even more happy and excited to do his assignments and study. My biggest purchase is a new addition to my small family, a 5 month old chihuahua. It did cost too much for just a dog but I'd like to have a new breed and it made me so happy! It's the happiness we feel that is priceless. Ciao!

well, am just a stay at home mom but i make sure that the allowance i receive from my husband are spent wisely. that means i make sure my bank account is fed regularly . i am with you when you say that sometimes we really need to spend on things. i just bought cetaphil soap antibacterial and much as it is cheap in the u.s. in the philippines the amount is really something since it is just a soap. me and my child have very fair skin which can be in par with that of a caucasian (we're not albino, tough) and that means our skin is thin and unfortunately very sensitive. the tropical climate takes a toll on my toddler's skin and as i believe his sweat glands are not well developed yet he always have a heat rash. other anitibacterial soaps have perfume and cetaphil is the only one his skin can tolerate. i've found a local soap but my feet, since feet lacks oil glands, still has to rely on this mild, antibacterial, non-soap but very expensive cetaphil bar.

Hmm, since last August is my birthday, I spend quite a lot of money to treat my friends and relative. So far, I spent like USD 160ish already and still have some friends I haven't treated yet, which final amount might sum up to USD 300. This week, I'll also buy Blackberry since my old cellphone is on very poor condition. Lots and lots of spending on August, I hope on September I can save 70% of my salary :)

Yeah I know, it's actually took me a lot of thinking before purchasing this one, since BB internet bill will cost me another $18 per month, but since I want to try my luck in trading stocks and the online software can only be installed in BB, I have no other option than buy one. Hope this investment will have a lot economic benefit in the future! Does BB also being a trend in the Philippines? It's really become a new lifestyle here seeing people carrying BB as their handphone and dump all their Nokias.

uhm very few people own blackberry here in Phils... it's kinda expensive here... That's one reason i'd rather save the money than buy it..money can go a long way here and a BB would buy a family's 2-3 months of groceries...lolz

Hi patof, you are really a good and caring mom. Yeah, you are more than willing to spend the big amount of money to buy your son the wonderful birthday present that really amazing him. Yeah, besides the daily basic necessities, as a thoughtful mom we should understand the needs and the different favorites of our kids in everything that they love. We might be rather stingy to buy ourselves the expensive stuff but we splurge to buy the useful device or other stuffs that would bring convenience to them using our saving We usually eat on Sunday afternoon. There was a grand book fair just right in front of the food court. We hanged round there after having lunch. I bought a favorite book with on sale price &7 usd only Happy posting

Really patof, we could hardly find anything more that could come up to seeing the joyance occurring on the face of our kids. Yeah, maternal love is great! I believe all the moms are willing to sacrifice everything for their kids, as long as they are healthy and happy. sometimes I bought a book just for the few pages of information that I need for reference. It's quite convenient and easy to read it before sleeping. I put some books by the side of my bed. It’s worthy to spend the affordable amount of money to get something that would bring benefit to us

Hi Patofgold, I have not been spending big amount for any purchase for so long. Frankly speaking, I am not a big shopper. A few months back, my husband bought a Plasma TV 42 inches. That's the biggest purchase he has made . We bought this TV for our new house and at that point of time panasonic was having a promo with some freegifts. So it is worth to grab. When I am going to make any big purchase, I will always consider carefully. Make all kind of comparisons among several brands available in the market before make a decision. Money is not easy to earn,so please spend wisely!!
