dancing to your own tune

Dont you just hate it when someone hassles you to get up and dance to music that just isn't your thing? - They grab your arm & try to drag you up and you really dont want to. Do you just go along with it or wait for something more to your liking? I love to dance but can't be doing with just swaying from side to side, doing 'set' dances or anything in formation. To me, dancing is a personal creative thing as the music takes you, so it has to be music that works for me. I will never forget the woman who (at a works party) told me "Listen love, when you come to something like this, you do what everyone else does!"... needless to say, I didn't - but I left her standing when I did my own thing!

Oh c'mon Wizzy! Who are you to deny the throng their passionate embrace of the Macarena danced in time to "Stairway to Heaven" played on the banjo? I've had many a moment letting myself go in such circumstances. FREE yourself and become one with the rhythm. ALLOW yourself to boogaloo 'til you puke. PLACE yourself within the grasp of group hysteria so you too can wake up the next morning feeling like an idiot and then blame it on the boogie..... It's your destiny, you just don;t know it yet. Aside from all that, I don't like being pushed into anything either. Not just dancing, anything!

The throng can do whatever the hell it likes & I'm more than happy to go with the rythm... hell, I'll let go despite (or, more likely because of )gasps of "WTF!!!" & I'd be happy enough to feel an idiot in the morning (assuming there was one available); I'll even do the YMCA thing but I wont be told how to enjoy myself!

Have you ever considered creating your own group dance move and actually calling it "The WTF"? I'd love to see drunken people the world over gettin' down, dirty and grinding away together to "The WTF"!

Aaaarrrrrggggghhhh!! NO NO NO!! never, ever.... the words 'dance' & 'group moves' do not belong together!! By all means, lets get down & dirty & grind together but NOT as a unified synchronized movement. I'll do MY moves and everyone else can do their own individual versions. Admitted, I may look like a cross between Tigger on speed and your granny trying to swat flies whilst hitching up her bloomer legs and doing the can-can but I'm having a good time 'cos I'm doing what my creativity motivates me to do, to the music I want to do it to... and not the same as everyone else! Rock on!

Dancing is very personal for me too. The phrase 'dancing to my own tune' is more than just literal as far as I'm concerned. I have never been able to follow popular dance styles...for that reason, I am not always comfortable dancing in public - especially if there are people I don't know very well. But dancing is relieving, it is creative, it allows you room to innovate and express yourself. I am stubborn when it comes to that.

I could never do line dancing or any of that type of dance even if I wanted to because I couldn't be that disciplined (or co-ordinated) to do the same as everyone else at the same time

I don't like being forced to dance either. I am not the best dancer in the world but I do like dancing. I hate it when I'm forced though because I feel under pressure.

Exactly... I will dance in my own way, when I'm good and ready - not when I'm told to. Dancing is something to do for fun not under orders!

Dancing with my own tune is very much fun and creating your own steps will reflects to your dancing mood. Life sometimes is like a dance that we need to follow the rhythm sometimes even though we don't like it.
