Could You Love A Crocodile?

People around the world have weird and wonderful pets, obviously the most popular ones are cats, dogs, rabbits, fish, guinea pigs, mice etc... What about having wild animals as pets? Snakes, spiders, lizards, goats, pigs even... People have them as pets and even name them! But what about more exotic species, how about a crocodile for instance? Albeit glad to say we don't have any crocs in my country and I certainly wouldn't want to see one up close, and certainly not as a pet. Mind you they'd be great burglar deterrants wouldn't they (hey another discussion bell rings in my mind!) trespassers would be eaten! But I digress Do you think crocodiles could be loved? As pets or even from afar? Have you ever been close to a crocidile in it's natural habitat or thankfully safefully behind breakproof glass (you hope!) at a zoo or nature reserve I think crocodiles are probably one of the few creatures that you can't actually touch, but could you actually have, look after a pet that you couldn't touch? And crocodiles grow too! You'd have to have space to keep them and I am sure you wouldn't one around the home sleeping in the dog basket? And what about caring for a crocodile and looking after it? Vet bills would be expensive, as would feeding it? Unless you had any unsuspecting burglar turn up! And wouldn't it be a chore having to clean it's teeth twice a day? But would it keep you warm in bed at night? You'd have to have a double bed as it would take up most of it! And finally could you tame a croc?

I remember a few years ago watching a show on Animal Planet about this man who had befriended an alligator and they would both sit side by side on the riverside and the man would talk to it and the alligator would peacefully lay there. Neither one having any fear of the other. It was truly a remarkable site to see. The alligators name was Max, I think. Max still lived in the river and the man regularly fed him beef or chicken. The whole story made me feel so good knowing that all creatures can learn to live together. Purrs, Catwoman=^..^= & Mija

Well I suppose it all depends on if it was your personal pet or not. Most people have a pet they can stroke or pet,I cannot imagine a croc sitting on my lap.Or even given it a brush or a stroke, the answer to that one for me it a resounding NO.

I can't imagine a croc sitting by the fire or laying in the cat basket either! Some animals you just don't want to touch let alone have in your home!

I have seen crocs. I don't hate them; but I wouldn't want to keep one as a pet. I wonder if a croc would like the experience of being kept as a pet. Crocs love the wild. And I really can't imagine a croc sprawled on the family bed. As for taming a croc... nopes... am scared of them, and I am sure I would run miles if I saw one approaching me. Cheers and happy Mylotting

Apparently they can run fast too, so glad I do training at the gym, that will help if I ever meet one LOL! I can't imagine a crocodile curled up in front of the fire or in the cat basket either, or wagging its tail pleased to have you home, or for dinner LOL!

I don't like cold blood animal such as snakes, lizards, crocodiles and so on. I am much more interested in mammals like cats, dogs etc. I don't like crocodile because it is a horrible animal in my opinion. It looks ugly and it is not funny to see it. I am afraid of being bitten. It is a dangerous animal. I love China

Wolfie laughs I think a croc would do more than bite you they'd probably want to eat you that is why I am happy not to come to close to one. I like lizards they are funny creatures to watch but only the small ones, not those great big iguana things ewww! Maybe I could get a lizard to eat all those pesky bugs that bother me!

I'm not sure about loving the crocdile..lol..I think there are some animals left best to the wild. I have had a spider for 8 years now. She is a Rose hair tarantula and was only supposed to live 5 years. We don't handle her or let her out of her cage at all. She stays put. I am actually afraid of her. She's creepy.

She must love you to live longer than her 5 years! Animals know when they are wanted and loved, even though it's a big hairy spider! You obviously look after it even though you are afraid of her! I'd rather a spider than a snake I have to admit but I think I will stick to the original pets like cats LOL!

Mr Croc managed. I love crocodiles because you know where you stand with them. Tommy Steele seemed ok with the alligator in The Happiest Millionaire, not your sort of film though and you probably don't know who he is.

Really boring answer to that. My eldest grandson said I was a nanna and liked crocodiles so nannacroc was a good name. His mum said it was apt because the best way to get on with me was to stand as far away as possible, same as a real croc.

You are the closest I've got to a croc, now forgive me if you've already told me or you don't want to but why nannacroc? If that's not to nosey of Wolfie? And yes I do know or have heard of Tommy Steele, I ain't that young PMSL!

We do have fish and snails in our aquarium. I have never had the urge to pick them up and pet them though. They are just there for looks. They do have a calming effect on a person though. That is about the only pet I would have that I couldn't touch. Crocs...forget about it.

Mind you one touch of a croc and you'd never be able to touch anything else again no doubt! Yes fish are very calming and that is why I think a lot of people keep them in the home and as for cuddling one, LOL!

I almost got my foot taken off by one when i was 16...lol we had these canals behind our house and i was sitting on one of the docks with a boy i liked talking one day and all of a sudden we both happened to look down at the same time and there was an alligator snout about half an inch from our feet...rotflmao!! you never saw two people shoot straight up to a standing position so fast in your life! We were lucky we saw it first....those things love to eat dogs and toddlers....

OMG, remind me not to come and live in Florida then LOL! And the second bit you added about them running? Well the size and shere weight of them you wonder how they can run so fast, the poor unsuspecting people who get out to take a better look? Blimey I'd be miles away by then! Thanks er for sharing, I am glad I am in my country LOL!

Hello wolfie34 Where on earth are you getting your inspiration from right now? hahaha I think I could love a crocodile but I most certainly would have to have his teeth removed first!! I don't think I would ever trust it because after all it's instinct tells him to eat me!! hahha Do you think a toothless croc can still eat someone? Hey there's an idea for a discussion hahaha PMSL

LOL don't ask! That will teach me for eating Haagen Daz late at night, dreaming of crocodiles PMSL Maybe you should stick to Ben and Jerry's mind you it helped with inspirational ideas. Not sure if a toothless croc could eat someone, although I am sure you won't mind if I don't volunteer. Not sure I'd want to cuddle up to one in the winter when it gets cold, unless it's stuffed and soft like a teddy LOL!

It's just that when you see them on the wildlife programs they don't seem to chew much do they? They just seem to throw the food down their necks! Imagine the size of the poo bags you need if you were taking it out for a walk!!

I love crocodiles. I don't know why. I like watching crocodile shows in discovery channel. I think they are cute. I have the pet feeling when I see a crocodile than the scary or danger feeling. I would like to have a crocodile in the pond in nearby my house. I would like to feed it on time. I also visited the 'crocodile park'in my state. They have lots of crocodiles there.

I guess crocs wouldn't be happy on being fed bread like you would to ducks, I'd hate to know what you'd feed them with LOL!

I have the best pet can exist. Is not making noise, does not urine on carpets, does not need to "go outdoor" twice a day, does not bite the visitors, wherever I put it, ther it is never move from there, if I forget about it for 2 months, when I remember about, my pet loves me like in the begining. This is a picture of my pet: http://tinyurl.com/lx6urj

If any of yuor neighbour is to "big mouth", then invite'am in your house and show this topic (don't let'em read to much). Then explain you just ask advices from EXPERTS about having a croc pet, which you espect to come from Africa within next days .. I think they will avoid forever to be less than 10 m distance from your home walls doors or windows ...

I guess it would depend on the owner. A lot of people like to take care of different kind of animals even Exotic ones. I don't think I would be able to take care of a crocodile because of a fear of getting hurt or eaten by them. I do admire them from a distance or watching them on animal documentaries.

Back in high school I had a friend who kept either a croc or an alligator as a pet (I don't remember which). She loved that thing and even had a leash for it for walkies. I have no idea whatever happened to it, though, as this was 30 years ago lol And I dig both of them. I think any efficient predator is pretty awesome. Sharks and raptors are particular favorites of mine. I wouldn't want any of them as pets, however. The closest I might ever come is to volunteer at the Raptor Center here.

Hi wolfie, I have never seen a crocodile, except on TV and in pictures and to be truthful, I wouldn't want to. Personally I am quite happy with my cats but I like dogs as well. I know that all sorts of animals have been tamed and people have them as pets, but many are meant to live in the wild and I think a crocodile may be one of them. I'm not saying that it would be impossible to tame a crocodile but to have it sleeping on my bed would be a bit too much lol! Blessings.

I think that is the closest I have seen one or want to see one. Those teeth ewwww! I don't like sharing my bed anyhow and I'd wouldn't want to sleep in case the croc wanted a midnight snack!

Hi there, yes I could love bees, beekeepers I am sure love their bees because they are good for the environment. I am not sure what other insect I could love, possibly spiders as they eat the nasty flies and other horrid bugs that irritate us.

I think its possible to love a croc since any living thing could be lovable as pets in my opinion. As far as keeping a croc as a pet, well you could open up a farm and breed them. But treating it as a man's best friend would really be unlikely. Crocodiles seems to have instincts to eat any living thing when its hungry. I think they cannot be tamed. Or follow tricks like other animals can do. Not to stay they are not as intelligent as other animals, but because they are made that way. To survive and last longer for the sake of their species.
