Anyone ever find themselves especially distracted when work has to be done?

A lot of the time, when I'm supposed to be working on something, normally mundane and boring activities suddenly become much more appealing to me. I watch programs on tv that I usually don't; I start reading wikipedia and move from link to link; I watch a youtube video that leads to another and another. I just can't seem to work until the pressure of time gets too great - and sometimes waste hours doing the above activities. Anyone else like that? And has anyone found an effective solution to this?

Yep! I get easily distracted too, especially when I know that I've got something to do. Personally, I find it hard to work when there's no deadline, so wasting time is all I do. A solution for this is to set goals and deadlines for yourself. You can tell yourself that THIS activity has to be done at THIS time. And you can reward yourself with an hour of free time or buying yourself a chocolate bar or punish yourself by doing more homework or not watching your favorite tv show. It's not the best solution but it does work with enough effort and self discipline. Also, you can set an alarm on your phone to remind you that a certain bit of homework has to be done.

Sounds like good advice... I'll be sure to try it out sometime. I guess it all boils down to self-discipline! Gotta whip myself into shape!

I always do this, and unfortunately the best way to get over it is to just do the work. Something I haven't managed to master yet, but it'd save all nighters and stress that's for sure.
