Do you think only schools in Conservative areas are concerned about Obama's

Speech to the students?
Milwaukee Public Schools, a huge school system that covers some of the most liberal neighborhoods there are. A school system that openly campaigned for Obama...
They have left it up to the schools to decide whether they will show Obama's speech in class today.
A lot of the schools are choosing not to.
It isn't just conservatives questioning this action by the president.
(((For the record, I'm not against any student hearing the speech. If I was a principal or teacher, I would probably choose to show the speech. What I would refuse to do is participate in the follow on assignments.)))

I know here in my school district they are going to do it. My neighbor is going to go pick up his kids before the speech and then return them after the speech and follow up worksheets are done. It is not that he has anything against them hearing the speech. But he does object to the content on the follow up sheets. His kids are in kindergarten and the the first grade. Personally he feels Obama should not be talking to kids that young any.
As for me. Well I virtual school my son and they haven given us the option of doing the speech and the follow up sheets. It is not required. My son is 6. So no, I am not doing them. I may let him watch the speech. But only after I have watched it first.
I definatley will not be doing the follow up sheets.

I just heard the incompetent press lie about how it's a "red state/blue state" thing. Will they ever get anything right?

Of course they are. Anyone who does not believe everything and do everything Obama says MUST be a horrible republican. In their opinion they are the only people who would not blindly follow him.
When was the last time the press actually got much right?

I guess I just don't understand what's so horrible about telling children to STAY IN SCHOOL, LISTEN, APPLY oneself, or LEARN 2 BE RESPONSIBLE. And from what I've read (www.whitehouse.gov/mediaResources/PreparedSchoolRemarks/) that's essentially whats being said. I could not find any subliminal messages, and I looked really really hard, I may have to play it (the video) backwards though...
I think this, like many other "hot topics", is diversionary.
I'd make my kid watch. I'd make her do the assignment sheet, even if she wholeheartedly disagreed with the contents of the speech. In that worksheet is the ability to express the child's views to the teacher, pro or con. Also, it would give great insight as to the child's cognitive abilities to understand and process information given him/her.

You would make your kids set goals about supporting Obama?
Where does the assignment give the kids the opportunity to disagree? It says specifically SUPPORT.
Now, a good teacher would allow it anyway, but apparently that wasn't part of Obama's plan.
No president (or any other elected official) deserves or should ever expect total support.

"Write letters to themselves about what they can do to help the president."
Ok, read the above, then re-read this line, and please tell me how that isn't the president making assignments to support him.

I saw nowhere where it asks a kid to do something supportive FOR the Obama administration. and my kid already DOES support Obama, she worked diligently on his campaign in '08, so it would be no great stretch for her to reply to either question. The educational department originally had wanted the Prez to ask a variation of the one you are alluding to, it was NOT used in the finished worksheet product.
No one thing or person will please all mankind.
