This is one of the headlines in yahoo news. There are some real problems with receiving Government Money - stimulus or otherwise. This is part of the reason we spend so much money on education and yet fail to see results. Any time a the school receives money from the government there are strings attached. I have been told that the stimulus money was given to schools to spend on Special Education and Title I and that it was a one time amount. If you used the money to hire teachers then you would have to pick up the cost next year and all future years.
Many schools that used the money to rehire teachers on lay off will either have to lay them off next year or raise taxes. Some schools will use the money for capital items that are nice but not necessary. There are even times when it costs schools money to receive government funding. I was part of a grant team that attended a, required, meeting to get information on a new government grant. To get the money you had to attend the meeting and apply and you would get the money. Required to attend were a teacher, Administrator and board member. After paying the salaries and subs, and travel expenses it cost the district $750. Once we were given out packet we learned that our school was eligible for $500.00 and we would have to attend another meeting.
This is yet another example of government waste that if the peopel had the money it would have been spent in a more ef

Wow!... Talk about diminishing returns...
You was in the hole before you even got out the gate on that one.
When the government is involved there are always strings attached.
The fact that it cost the school more money then what they are even eligible to get is a fine example of the foolishness behind the whole stimulus idea... which isn't working, and of which only about ten percent of it has even been distributed... and the rest won't be for several years yet.
