Am still new to my lot and one thing that ave realized wen going thru the discussions and responses is that most people use the phrase 'lol'. I really dont know why and sometimes av been tempted to use it but i dont actually know where to place it i might use it against its meaning.i just wanna know why its so frequently used and when to use it. Is it an exclamation mark or something?

*LOL*, lol or LOL translates into "Laugh out Loud" and is generally used when a user thinks something is funny or humorous. I try to only use it when something genuinely makes me chuckle. I don't think there is a a correct place to put it. You could put it at the beginning of your response, the end of a sentence, or the end of a discussion altogether.

That's right. Lol more than just a smile, and can be placed anywhere that is considered appropriate.

lol, i know you probably don't like hearing it but i thought it was kind of funny reading your question because i don't see that phrase used often probably in 1 out 4 users comments or less. i haven't really been looking out for it but the ones that i read i don't mind when they say it. they say it because they think something is funny or because their saying something funny. i find it quite flattering to the person who wrote the discussion if they think that person is funny. as long as their not making fun of the person who wrote the discussion is the most important thing. and you know some users can use mylot codes like this to express that they think something is funny. but typing lol is much quicker because on some computers like mine it takes forever for the mylot codes to load. well happy mylotting!

Lol means "laughing out loud" but I don't use it much here. When people think something is funny they will use that. It's not only mylotters, it's almost everyone that uses the internet. I prefer using 'tol' for thinking of laughing because most people don't REALLY laugh OUT LOUD. We usually just think of laughing...

Hi Dodosuens, I tend to use 'lol' to show people that I am joking. I speak in a very sarcastic manner most of the time, and to make sure someone knows that I am not actually insulting them I add 'lol' so they know it was a joke. It would be the equivalent of the mini laugh or smile a person does in the real world after they have told a joke, or just teased someone I think. I know that when I read something I am less likely to take offence if there is a 'lol' at the end then when there isn't. I tend to miss jokes otherwise lol! I guess when it comes to using it you just put it where it feels right, as mentioned before there are no set rules Dranz

I once saw an animated GIF on the net which read: "LOL...for when I can't be f****d finding anything else to say." And I think it's so true for me, because I just chuck it in whenever I'd go "heh" or have a little awkward chuckle in real life when I'm talking. Just like I regularly type "Uhm" into my posts. I'm not sure, I guess it's just how I express myself through text. How I type is pretty close to how I speak.

LOL! Sorry...this post very much deserved a 'lol'. Where did you find that GIF? I'd love to see it.
