During the summer holidays the thought of doing my grocery shopping with my 3 young sons was unbarable so I decided to do it online. It was easy enough and was delivered during the alloted time that I had specified. The very first time I ordered the wrong milk but that was my fault and made sure I didn't make the same mistake again. In the 5 orders I placed I had, one mouldy pepper, a very soggy cereal box, a slightly brown cauliflower, 10 mini muffins instead of 12 and unripe apples but on the whole I was pleased to have the groceries delivered to my house and I am pleased to say that I have no more grey hairs now than before the hols started!! I am looking forward to going shopping for myself tomorrow as I can then pick my own fruit and veg again.
Do you get your groceries delivered? Have you had a bad experience after having your groceries delivered. Would you never have your groceries delivered?

I've never thought of having my groceries delivered, but I only have 1 son. I may feel differently if I had 3 of them in tow. I heard that it costs extra to have it delivered and that can get kind of expensive. It seems like they could have the courtesy to make sure your produce looked nice and was fresh. I guess you can't win every time.

Hi there zed_k4
I have always bought things from the internet like, dvd's, cd's etc but this was the first time I did my grocery shopping online. If I go away on holiday elsewhere in the UK they will also deliver to me there if I give them the address!
Thanks

I think that home delivery is great - but I've never tried it! LOL. I have ordered stuff for my aunt and she was happy with everything and my neighbour does her weekly shop online always. She is very happy, but says that there is always a substitute item or two. Personally I like to get into the shop and feel the goods. Also, I try to shop at a cross section of shops and supermarkets. Currently I am addicted to Lidl and Aldi. I can get veg for 29p at one or the other each week. Fantastic! I get free range eggs for £1.60a dozen direct from the farm and I try to buy meat from the producer too. That said, Lidl sell Free Range chickens for under £4 each! I have no idea how they do it but I happily buy it. But I bet the poor farmer is pared to the bone.

Hi Humbug, online shopping delivered to your door, whatever next
It was 4 years ago when I had to have an operation and knew I wouldn't be able to drive for 5 weeks afterwards and certainly not walk in the August heat that I asked the local supermarket if they would deliver for me until I would be mobile again as they do deliver to the local tavernas and restuarants. So all I did was phone down my order and they delivered it free and Gregoris brought it right up the huge flight of outdoor steps and put it in the kitchen for me. The only drawback was having my shopping sometimes delivered at midnight. I'd do it again if I needed to but prefer to shop outside the village normally as it is so much cheaper.

That is what I am afraid of having your good delivered to you. First , you were not able to check them yourself, and see if it is spoil or not. I think it is best that you see the item personally before you can have them in your home. I hope that you were still able to replace those items.

Grocery deliveries are a godsend! Me and my boyfriend both have fulltime jobs so don't have a lot of free time. On top of that neither of us drive so shopping can be a chore, especially carrying heavy bags up the steep hill to home! Home delivery makes everything so easy. I fill in all the things i can think of, then my other half adds things he would like. It also means we can shop at a astore which is out of town and we would otherwise be unable to get to.
It's a bit annoying when they are out of stock of things you want but the replacements are usually fine. And I haven't had any trouble with mouldy or damaged items. It also saves money as when I shop in the supermarket i get tempted by extra things, which doesn't happen online. It also gives you more time to look at all the special offers and get the best deal.

Hi there magickat and welcome to mylot
I have suggested that my friend does it because she lives up a few flights of stairs as I told her they will deliver to her door and put it in the room or place of her choice. She also works long and late hours so it would be ideal for her.
Thanks for your response and happy mylotting

I am the home delivery boy, er lad, er man even as I do the shopping for mum and I do it for our neighbour too, she is 90 bless her so I happily get her shopping for her, I go twice a week to good old Sainsburys, after the gym, Wednesdays and Saturdays. I love grocery shopping at 8pm on a Saturday, the shop is virtually empty and the cashiers are waiting for me whoooohoooo! Sorry I digress we have never had home delivery as there's always been me and my father with cars to go out and do it. I think it is a good idea especially if you are busy and have a heavy schedule or have children or for the infrail. But I would always worry that they are not picking out the best like I would. I am fussy about my fruit and veg and I spend time picking out the best, naturally! But I suppose what you lose in bad fruit or spoilt goods you make up for in saving petrol and time and stress if you've got anklebiters with you whilst you shop ;0)

Hi ya wolfie34
That is so sweet of you to shop for your neighbour, you're a good lad!!!
That is exactly how I felt about it that the odd spoilt item didn't matter too much as I had saved petrol needless to say my sanity but then that is debateable (where's that darn dictionary!!). I would pick the cheapest time slot too which varies from £3 - £6.50. I did go shopping today and the feeling was great being able to make my own choices but I did end up spending an extra £40 than I would have if I had done it on home delivery!! Having said that though, I did get some things for Christmas!!
Cheers

The only time that I had my groceries delivered was once when we went on vacation and didn't have access to a car. It was pretty painless. We also placed the order online and got everything we wanted without any major issues. The thing I didn't like is being able to shop for sale items(as we were out of town and didn't have access to the sales paper). I completely understand though, not wanting to cart your 3 kids through the grocery store. Sometimes kids can make the simplest task a big chore.
