I have a new grand baby!! She was born a month and a half early, I'm afraid to hold her because she's soooo little. I was very gently touching her and a nurse told me not to do that because her nerves haven't developed yet and when I touch her (except on her hands and feet) it's the equivalent of running the tip of nails down her arm and painful for her, I don't want to hurt her or do something I'm not supposed to do. I've never had to deal with a preemie and am looking for advice and help on what I should and shouldn't do/what's good/bad for her!!

I don't have much advice. My niece was a 7 month preemie but I don't remember much about it, I was only 11 at the time. The nurse is probably right. Talk to the baby a lot, read to her, touch her as much as you can on the spots the nurse says you can that won't hurt her. I hope your granddaughter has a long and healthy life and brings you nothing but joy!

Thanks dragon54u, and that's some really good advice! I talk to her, sing to her, but I didn't think about reading to her and that's a really good idea, I think I'll see about taking in some classical music too, I know they can listen to it while in the hospital!!
