hi mylotters. there are various type of discussions here in mylot. some are funny, some are serious and some are too light. i have been connecting with mylot for 5 months and my experiences say that serious discussions get more less responses than funny or light. so my question is why we avoid serious discussions? only for this cause that it is hard to respond. but we should not forget that life is serious and we have some serious matters to share with. but it seems that maximum mylotters are not interested in serious discussions. so i just want to ask you which type of dioscussion you prefer? serious or funny? and why? please share.

As far as I am concerned you have found the reason yourself. Life is serious... Offline we have many problems, some serious some less, to deal with and personally I come here to leave them behind and have fun with friends. I very rarely start a topic about any thing which might be important to me offline and causing me stress and I prefer to be involved with the fun discussions which are light-hearted and distract from other offline problems. If I see a serious discussion where I feel I could or ought to add something then I will but that happens very rarely.

I like them both but I have noticed the same thing. I think that people are afraid of getting rated negative for their opinions on serious topics sometimes. I've started a couple of serious ones and learned that people really don't like them. I even had a member once ask me why I would start such a depressing subject..lol..it was a question about lay offs.

I agree. The serious ones are very important and a part of life. I personally would never rate anyone based on the fact they don't agree with a certain opinion. I wouldn't want anyone to rate me negativly just because I think about something differently.

hi jen. that may be the cause that members are afraid of a negative rating. but i think the starter should not rate them negatively bcoz we are just sharing our feelings and it may be opposite to the starter. depressing subjects but utmost important to life. isn't it? thanks jen. lol....

I feel that what you are saying is right , i do respond to all sorts that is both serious and light..But again it depends on the people , they only respond to the discussion where they can relate themselves or the topic is that whic they are aware or feel interested .

I do agree with you Soniasony. Members respond right away when they find the topic interesting. It could either have a serious topic or a very light one.

Strangely enough, I go for the more serious ones. I'm usually pressed for time, as I write most of the day, and when I see a discussion that is not serious I usually think "I really don't have time for this" and will set it aside or delete it from my mailbox. I enjoy reading the original post that comes in my mailbox but I don't usually feel it's a good use of my time to reply to "fluff". I should do more of it, light discussions would be good for me.

Hi Shibhom, Look serious discussions have different categories within themselves like religion or politics or the like. Most people like to keep themselves at arms length from responding such discussion for there is a fear or chance of misunderstanding and popping up of controversy. Secondly, serious discussion need thinking and we are not prepared to think heavy stuff after responding a lighter one or we are not so much conversant with the discussion topic. And responding to funny and lighter topic is easy for your head would not need to bear much pressure.

hi i know that most members dont like to involve in those serious topics related to religion or politics. the main cause may be the chances to be blammed or afraid of to lose their personalities in mylot. but i think it is not the real matter. every serious discussion is not related to these sorts of subjects. yes, chances of misunderstanding is granted. again we are mature and most of us are carring various types of burden. so u cant say that we are not prepare to think heavy stuff. N. B. hope slapethief will give a look in this comment. thanks for response

hi shibham,i just want to say that it depends by different charactor and different person.Somebody like thinking rationaly ,somebody like thinking emotionally, someone is negative, pessmistic, low self-esteem,someone is positive,optimistic,self-confidence.As you say ,most mylotters are not interested in serious discussions,i believe that ,since someone could find mylot in the internet and join it everyday ,then he/her is more likly to a positive, optimistic and self-confidence person, and i believe most mumber of mylot would agree with me ,do you?

People are lazy to think so they opt for lighter subjects. I try to response to both, the lighter and heavier discussions only if I can relate well to the subject.

With me I prefer both. Let me explain it one by one. let me start with the serious discussion. With serious discussion, you will learn a lot of things. There are some instances that you can relate to the situation because you have experienced the same thing. It will be easy for you to give your point of view in the topic. In that case, you were also able to help the poster of the discussion because you have given him / her advices on what to do with the situation. On the other hand, in terms of funny discussions, I got no problem with this since I am a jolly person. Every time I respond to this kind of discussions, smile can be sen in my face and eyes. Both this discussion are enjoyable.happy mylotting!!

I have always been considered as a serious person, that is why even in discussion I do, they are serious topics. So, that is the reason why I only get a handful responses. But I have also noticed in other discussions from other members that they do have serious topics yet get a number of responses. I guess perhaps if they really find the topic interesting, a lot of people do get notice. I do start a discussion when there is something interesting that I find, whether they may be serious or funny.

hi jules, well said. it is a hard task to understand everyone's mind here in mylot. you cant be well prepared for an interesting serious topic. to recieve lots of response is a co incident, i think. but the main matter is people visit mylot to get rid of some mental stresses through some funny moments. thanks. lol

I tend to be very serious for quite some time and funny for a quite some time. I often get serious during my work culture. As far as my personal life is concerned, I always be relaxed and make fun regularly. In my opinion, there is no serious things involved in all the aspects. I prefer to go the funny always as I cover all my friends and relatives. I have one a little time to enjoy and make fun of it. if i do not use it on proper way, then i lose my youth life which i cannot get it back. But I feel little serious to be involved when it comes to emotions. If i hear some tragedic matter, then i have to be serious for socitity point of view.

shibham I respond to whatever discussionintersts me they are from seriouos to funny to light to heavy but I will not respond to political stuff as I get too easily hurt by insults made against me because they think they have to change my political views. So I' repond to all kinds and I try to make my discussions range from very serious to light and silly. we all need to get a sense of humor in this very upsetting world we now live in.

Here i guess, you can;t blame the people, because if a person doesn't reply in a serious discussion, its maybe he has nothing to say to it. Maybe he doesn't think in that way what is given in the discussion. It all depends how a person is. Majority of people like funny discussions because it keeps them happy too reading it. Maybe thats the thing. Well for me. I really don't even bother reading the discussions in which i really have no interest, because there ain't a compulsion to reply everywhere. And even if i do reply in an uninterested topic ,then i'll give a very stupid reply. Which is not even needed there or something which is not even of any use. Maybe this is the reason. Well this is my thinking. What do you think about it. Anyways great discussion. Kept me thinking for alot of time. Happy Mylotting

I respond to topics that appeal to me. No more, no less. If it is something I feel I can contribute to, I will respond whether it is serious, funny, or light. If however I feel I can not contribute positively, I will not answer at all. Cheers.

I have only recently joined MyLot and I enjoy both serious and funny discussions. Life is serious. There are many things as adults that we must be responsible about and take very serious. There is our families, our health, our finances, our responsibility to our fellow man and society in general. But on the other hand we also have to enjoy our lives and have plenty of humor in them. In my life I have had plenty of serious situations to cope with I believe if I did not enjoy laughter I would not have made it.
