Do you prefer when people ask you...

Which do you prefer... When people ask you how OLD you are, or when they ask how YOUNG you are? It's a subtle difference, and I think the standard is to ask how old a person is, but some people are insistent to say they are this young... I usually just ask how old. How about you?

Hi Bethany I think the reason some people prefer "how young are you" is because they are not satisfied with their age or actually feel old. I don't understand why some people get offended when they are asked their age, it is actually awesome to say how many years you have been onthis earth, LOL!! but I also ask "how old are you".

I agree. Some people feel younger than they are or just don't want to think about getting old or face such a prospect (me included! -- JK) ... But I do agree with you. You raise a good point also in saying it should be celebrated with amazement to tell someone how long you've been alive and experiencing things! Great response. Thanks. : )

When people ask how old I am I say "I'm 57 years young". When they ask me how young I am, I say "Excuse me?" LOL

I always ask how old are you. It is just weird to ask how young a person is. It is something that was made up for older people, but no matter how old a person is asking how young they are is not going to make them younger. Maybe it will make them feel that way?! Though saddly you get old, not younger. There is no way around it. Well, unless you are Benjamin Button .

It doesn't matter to me..I often just tell folks I'm old enough to know better. Young enough to let it bother me much. For the record I just last month overcame 57.. ENJOY!

The question can come out in any way,as you say,the people respond the same way, that's by telling the questioner the age. Asking how young/old are you would suggest the listener to respond by telling his/her age.We all do tell our year's spent till now rather going for the other parts suggesting our looks or physique we say our age and ask for their age.

I have been lucky or cursed , itdepends on the way you look at it, with a baby face. I look younger than I am. So I don't care either way. My age isn't on my mind . In fact when I am asked my age, I have to figure it out. I really have to remember what year it is and do the math!

I rarely ask people because it can be rude to ask someone's age at an inappropriate time, but if I do ask, I ask, "How old?"

Hello my friend Bethany1202 Ji, Normally, I do not ask anyone their age, I guess myself by their activities. Especially with women, they may not prefer. But in my case, after someone called me 'Aunti' and later I was called 'Grany' as I picked up door to heaven/hell, it sounded me well. I never got dis-appointed. At the same time, I always wish taht youngsters come to me andtake some advises with my experiences. I like that. But is is seldome now. May god bless You and have a great time.

People sometimes see me younger than my age (probably I don't look mature enough) so they tend to speculate and treat me like I am 19 years old. Honestly I don't mind if I look young (all woman do) but being treating like that is annoying. When they asked how old I am (nobody ask 'how young you are' to me) they tend to be surprised.

i also ask how old you are. It is strange or peculiar thing when they ask how young you are . Many people ask me how old you are. Our age goes up , but one year in our lifetime is reduced.

Hey there. I have never been asked how young I am and I dont know if this question is posed very often? I don't think there is anything wrong in asking the question how old. I dont understand how people can take this as an insult? Maybe I just sa this because everyone thinks I am younger than my actual age haha!
