Swine flu, shot or no shot?

When the swine flu (h1n1) shot becomes available will you be lining up to get it? I am really up in the air about this one. I do not think I will be one of the first people in line to get it when the studies are over. Dad was telling me a story about the last time there was a swine flu and it turned out more people had died from getting the shot than they did from the flu that year. So I am still up in the air about this.

I'm not sure if I will or not. I'm a college student and there are a few confirmed cases of that flu going around and I'm more worried about myself right now though because I work in food services. I'm not so worried about one part of my job, which is pots and pans. I wash and scrub the pots and pans used in the kitchen before sanitizing them and the students don't contaminate them as much as their plates. That's the second part of my job though, I'm a dish washer so I handle dishes more often than not and I'm worried I may catch something because of that. So I'm still on the wall about because I've never recieved a shot before because I hadn't thought I needed one.

Just make sure you wear gloves when you are washing the dishes. and hot hot water. The shot seems like it will be risky to though, They are giving you a live virus.

I don't get the regular flu shot, so I won't get this one, either. I know some people that are already signed-up to get the shot when it is available, though. I think it comes down to risk factors. I think the flu shots nowadays are pretty safe, and if you are at high risk for serious complications if you get the flu, then you should probably get the vaccine. I am not a doctor, however, so it is always better to talk to your doctor and get his or her opinion on the subject.

The one time that I actually got a regular flu shot,I ended up getting the flu 2 days after the shot. Of course the doctor will say to get the shot, the doc always tries to push the flu shot onto people, lol was just trying to get peoples opinions on it. Actually my concern is my son, which I am gone to talk to his doctor about. He has asthma and usually gets upper respiratory infections at least twice a year, so am thinking he may need it. Thanks for taking the time to give your opinion.

I used to get the flu shot, because my mom would make me. I always got the flu, or at least flu-like symptoms, the day after I got the shot but they only lasted a day or so. I don't really remember ever getting really sick from the flu during the years that I had the shots, so I guess they worked. I think I must have a really good doctor, because my doctor says that I don't need to have the shot. On the other hand, my little one will have to have it, but little ones are usually more at risk. Given this and the fact that your son has asthma and is prone to upper respiratory infections suggests that you are right that he probably will need to have it.

Personally, unless you are in one of the risk categories, I wouldn't recommend taking the vaccine. I've never gotten a flu shot but a co-worker used to get hers religiously every year...and every year she ended up sick with the flu, sometimes more than once. We both worked at a college and I had more direct contact with students and staff then she did yet I was rarely sick. This vaccine has been developed quickly which gives me even less reason to trust it.

It did get done rapidly which causes some concern with me. The side effects could be major. I think I am gone to see what happens the first few weeks the shot is available. I def will not be at the doc the day it is released. I wanna see what effects it will have first
