Some people really have this crab mentality to pull down a person who is superior to them. I just want to share this experience of mine. I have a friend, I treated her as my best friend because she teaches me stuffs about html and css coding. But after sometime, she noticed that I am now more knowledgeable of stuffs. I don't know about her but everytime I have a new status on twitter, she'd react to it. For example, my status is: "I love facebook, it's really addictive". She will change her status to: "Reasons why I hate facebook is blablabla.." She really contradicts me all the time. And for the only reason that I outgrew her in html coding and css and my blog's now popular than her.

She has a little growing up to do. I don't really see why she should be envious. After all, if she really wanted to improve then she should just practice or learn more, right? It's envy I think but she has to deal with that on her own.

Machiavelli said, "man by nature is greedy for power". It isn't just about crab mentality or whatever it is, I think that is really what the nature of man is, to pull down other people who are on top. We get envious to other people who has everything so to speak ,so finding ways to get even is the first option. It's difficult to find people who don't have or tried to stop having this negative perception, so we must treasure those people once we find one. The only thing or should i say, the best thing to do--if we are really a friend is to support and appreciate what our friend has achieved and be thankful because we were the reason why he/she is already there. Your friend whom you think is envious with you should think of it if she is really a friend. Crab mentality as you said is negative--why not change it to positive, right?

It's jealousy really... I've also heard it called the "Tall poppy syndrome". Grow too tall and people will want to cut you down. I think it's a part of what we as humans are, because we always want to be the best. I guess some of us are better at controlling our jealousy of others.
