I like to read,,i mean my greatest pleasure is reading,,,some time just be immmersed in the worlds created by words,, I find so difficult to leave a book half read,, i find it so irritating when i have a part of book left, unread Normally i read every book in one sitting ,,to an extend Never feels a need of anything else when reading a book,,and the flow of time goes so fast Once i read 1200 pages in one sitting ,,in 9 hours continously i want to know your experiences

I don't have enough time anymore to sit around and read a book in one sitting, so I am mega jealous of your 1200 page feat! I normally read in between classes or on public transport and all that (I'm a university student), but nowadays it takes me FOREVER to finish a book. I mean seriously...if I'm reading a novel, I should probably be using that time and brainpower to read my textbooks, right?

Why? I think reading formed my mind ..what i am now just reading textbooks like every gives you nothing but good marks

Exactly. So I shouldn't be wasting my time reading novels when I could be studying and getting good marks to lead on to a better job and better lifestyle etc, right? Besides, I don't think novels enrich your mind as much as concrete facts do. They're great for refining writing style or making you think about deeper issues up to a point, but in the end, it just isn't as practical if you don't have the time. Don't get me wrong though, I absolutely ADORE reading...it's just that at this point in time, I have more important things to do with my spare time. :)

I've read a thousand page book in a day once. Not sure what the hours all added up together, as I did stuff and came back to it off and on all day..but yeah. I can read a four hundred page book in two hours. Six hundred to seven hundred pages takes me three to four hours. Although, if my brain's tired, the sentances are heavier, or if I want to prolong my enjoyment of the book...then it may take me an additional half hour to an hour no matter the book. I prefer to be able to just sit and read...but usually I tend to have to pick it up off and on throughout the day. It's why I've been cutting into my sleep recently...I'll stay up late when everyone else is asleep and read for hours, undisturbed. xD

I never pick up a book if I only have half an hour to spare, as I too like to immerse myself in my reading. I don't think I could manage 9 hours in one go, but I've often sat and read for 3 hours or more. When I do put my book down to do something else, it has to be at the end of a chapter, so if I know my reading time is drawing to a close, I have a quick look to see how long the next chapter is.

Like you, Eternus, when a book is good, I just want to keep on reading until I finish. Although I'm not sure I've ever stayed still long enough to read a book in one sitting! "Pillars of the Earth" was over 900 pages and it took me only a few days to complete reading it. I did, however, break for food and sleep. But my family all know that once I start reading, if I'm totally in the story, then I'll have my nose in that book until it's done!

Hi Eternus! You are a fast reader. You can read 1200 pages in 9 hours which implies 2 to 3 pages per minute. Nice going. I can't guarantee that every time I sit the same length of time reading a book but, the longest time i ever sat reading a book was 9 hours. I was reading a novel from Dan Brown. I think it is 'Deception Point', started it night at 8 and finished at 5 in the early morning. I forgot to sleep. I finished the book and I thought it was still around 12 or 1 AM. The book has to interest me and I can read it as long as I can. On an average, the minimum time I spend on a book at a single stretch is 4 hours. But similar to you, I too read anything except textbooks.

cool. you read more than i do. i like to read. it is fun and relaxing for me. but i enjoy reading in bed, especially right before bedtime. it is almost meditative. sometimes, if i am really into the story in the book, it ends up being in my dream that night. 9 hours at one sitting is probably too long for me. i would get tired and need a break. but i would probably read for 5 hours, instead.

Unfortunately I didn't have the possibility to read too much. Books are expensive, nearby libraries are crap, reading extensively on the monitor burns my eyes, so I've only had a pair of books I could actually read through. I go through them on a blaze though. I may do posterior rereads, several times, each time more slower than the last, but the first read will definitely be one at high speed always wanting to know what's coming around the corner next and whenever I would have to be interrupted I'd have to delay whatever needed my attention until I could at least complete the chapter (The pain being a bit bigger if it ends on a cliff-hanger). I guess some would call it a waste, that.. this is not how you're "meant" to read a book, how to go through the story, but I sincerely can't understand their point of view entirely.
