Which would you prefer... No electricity for 3 days or no water for 3 days?

Let's just say some major upgrade needs to be done in the city, so you have time to store up water or electricity (for those who have generators and such). There's going to be a choice of which to sacrifice. Would you rather have no water for 3 days? (don't worry you won't die because you have already stored enough drinking water but of course, you just stored enough for the basic needs) or would you rather not have electricity for 3 days?

Water is more important than electricity you can live without electricity but you can't live without water. Water is life so I think I can survive without electricity for 3 days. Back in the 90's we always experienced brownout for 1 months or longer. The power supply back then is not enough but we have water supply despite it is always brownout. Last 2006 we experienced the worst affect of the typhoon we don't have electricity and we don't have water. We are thankful that it is raining that time we can collect rain for drinking and for laundry. The ration of water is not for free even if the local government supplied it for free there's some people taking advantage of it and they sold it. We also find water nearby when the supply is not enough. We also blamed our homeowner association for corrupting our fund for the transferring of our water system to private sector. I remembered everytime that it is raining in the middle of the night I need to wake up to collect water from the rain so we have water to use the next day. It is very difficult if there's no water available.

Hmmm... I was just thinking.. You could go to the malls to do your thing so as your toilets wouldn't suffer the consequences of having no water hahahahahha!

I agree with madein. It's difficult to have no electricity for 3 consecutive days. But much more challenging to not have any water for 3 days in a row. Purchasing water in bottles can be costly. And as emphasized by the poster, I may have stored drinking water. But it's not a 100% guarantee that it will last for 3 days. And water is VERY necessary when you need to go to the bathroom!I don't think anyone will dare enter a bathroom that has been used for --you know--without having it flushed down!

I would rather be without electricity because you definately need water to bathe, drink, and whatever else. Its a source for survival. You have light in the daytime (the sun, obviously) and if you need a light source at night, candles or flashlights should be at hand.

Given the options, I'd go with no water for 3 days. Because if as you say I'd have enough for my basic needs, then I wouldn't even miss it all, I don't consume that much water and can go through big periods of thirst withouth a problem. Electicity is more important however, I'd definitly die out of boredom...

What about that? Since the bathroom isn't even at the same floor where I sleep and eat around here I could go a few days withouth doing it, so that I wouldn't die of thirst :D

That's a close one, but I would choose to have electricity. You can always prepare and fill up with water to drink, since you can't live without water. But that means no showering for three days. depending on how much water you save up, you really wouldn't want to waste it on making coffee, or at least not 2 or 3 times a day. But I have lived without electricity for three days before and it was terrible. And generators, even small ones are expensive.

I think he's referring whether you choose water or electricity. Meaning If you choose electricity you can't have water.

Hi laydee I prefer no water for 3 days! With electricity, I can use earth water (water from soil) and boil it before drink, or simply order gallons of mineral water. That's simple! Without electricity, I will angry! LOLz.. it's hot here without air conditioner and whenever the weather hot, I easily angry. Plus, there will be no TV, computer, radio and lamps. Dark, lonely, hot! I can't do my homework without lamps and laptop..so better no water. I still can phone the mineral water agent to send gallons to my home,,hehe

You're going to take a bath on gasoline stations?
• Indonesia

Yeah in Indonesia, my country, there will always be a public bathroom in gas station, i frequently take a bath there everytime my water stop flowing just because i did not pay a bill for something that cover 70% of this planet :p

No Water of course as I usually drink from bottled drinks so I could do without the water, I watch tv or use the internet everyday so I probably could not do without those for three days if I was home. I would just cook stuff that did not need water.

How bout flushing and taking baths?

At first I thought this was going to be difficult for me, but then I thought about the bathroom and decided I'd rather be able to flush than to have electricity especially since doing without it is just for a short amount of time.

Hello, I would rather go with out electricity for 3 days.I could not imagine the city were to shut off for a whole day.I've seen it done for hours at a time but not for days.During the winter I know that fallen trees have cut power for days, my family has a generator so electricity was no problem. I am happy to live close to the police station because I know if the power goes off it will be one of the first to have the power restored.

Man has survived without electricity for so long but cannot survive without water. I would say I would forego the electricity rather than water. I know a lot of tekkies would say otherwise but in reality, I think surviving without electricity is a lot easier than survival without water.

well, i cannot live without both actually, but if i have to choose one, i rather have water than electricity. We need to drink yes? Otherwise our wallets will burn a hole if we keep buying water bottles outside. How about showers? That is also important cos of my country's hot weather. Electricity is also important but then we can make do by wearing more cooling attires, and to keep mosquitoes away, i can always use the manual type of repellent. One thing good about no electricity is that maybe we don't have to work in the office for 3 days? :)

The place where i'm from has water shortage frequently. We are used to storing water to last us for 2 days. But i don't have a generator at my place so i would be severely immobilized without electricity.None of the electric gadgets like T.V.,REFREIGERATOR,computer,Geysers,music system and micro wave wouldn't work.Since i already am able to manage for 2 days by storing water an extra day would hardly make a difference .Hence i prefer not to have water for 3 days.

I would rather have no water. I pretty much live on my computer and I couldn't even think about not having it for three days. I would lose my mind, as sad as that is!

i would rather have no water for 3 days. i have lots of things to do online and without electricity, i would not be able to connect to the internet or recharge my laptop. i could accomplish many things in 3 days so i'd rather have no water.

I would rather go for no electricity for 3 days. There are a lot of alternatives to have an electricity anyways. Water is our basic need so without it would be too dry.

My preference would be for no water...it would not be an issue though because I have rainwater tanks so I could drink, wash and keep things clean. No electricity would mean no lights, radio, TV or computer (horror of horrors). All the food in my fridge and freezer would perish and life would be sad and dull.

i'd rather not have electricity for three days. it would be really hard to live without water for that long. if what we have is good for drinking and basic needs only (like cooking), maaan, that would be really upsetting. there are so many things that we cannot do, wash our bodies, wash dishes, how about if we poop? yuck! no water to flush the toilet? i have two dogs, we need water constantly to wash away their pee and poopies. i have a two year old here, and water is really important with this one who always gets dirty, and poops... ewww.

After the floods in '06 we where without both water and electric for almost three weeks. It is definitely easier to be with out the electric then it is to be with out the water. I say that having electric stove so no way to cook indoors except my fire place. We used our grill as well. Electric is used 90% for things that are not a necessity such as TVs, microwaves, radios and video games. Water is needed to clean with from the home to the body as well as to cook with. Definitely give up the electric for us.

You are definitely right with saying that 90% of the things we use electricity for are not really essential.

I think I would rather have no electricity for 3 days if I had to choose between the two. My Electricity bill is quite low anyway as I have a Gas cooker and Gas boiler/central heating. Also it's nice to have fresh water to be able to keep yourself clean.

I found myself living in a situation 'at home' earlier this year with no water for more than 3 days and trust me - computer hog, gas station person, whoever else- you DON'T EVER want this - you would be AMAZED at the extent to which we rely on water throughout our day. Just using the restroom (flushing the toilet) and simple hygene needs alone are extreme discomforts when you have no water for a sustained period of time. I can tell you I was going crazy when this happened to me. So I would go for no electricity EVERY time!
