Potomac Boat Incident Training exercise?

Who DOES THAT. I started out watching CNN and one of the anchors said she heard herself that her scanner said their was shots fired. Then another one said it would be the all time most stupidiest thing for the Coast Guard to CHOOSE 9/11 for training, including the fact that the President is in the Pentagon.
Is it a coverup, what kind of cold people are these that they would not give media headsup and let the families who suffered this tragic day over again!

This happened on Friday and I didn't hear anything about a claim that it was a training exercise. Normally the area of the Potomac River where the incident took place is open to boaters but had been blocked off due to the presence of the President in the area. It was one boat, if shots were fired they were warning shots. If this had been some sort of attack the amount of equipment and personnel that would have responded to the area would have left no doubt that something serious had happened and the media would have had more to report.

Correcting myself. I don't have a television where I am but my daughter confirmed that CNN is reporting a training exercise on the Potomac River today. Not good timing...no.

Yea, I figured it was a boater wandering somewhere they should not go and thought it was dumb for them to cover it up (maybe before confirming the whole situation themselves) by saying it was a exercise training (if it wasn't) because it IS 9/11 (my birthday, whohoo? 
--no really,lol). My first thought when I saw it was that if it was serious there would of been the army, navy, marines EVERYBODY there immediately

First of all, Happy birthday! I hope you have a great day.
This entire situation was boneheaded from the start. I was reading (and posting) about the a wandering boater reported under Breaking News on CNN's website when my daughter called to tell me what she was seeing on television...which was completely different. You're right about a greater response had something really been going on though. I haven't lived in that area for several years but I believe the U.S. Naval Station is still there.

Note to Emergency Services Organizations... Don't schedule ANY training exercises on 9/11.

The Potomac River is a recreational area...I've been boating on it many times. From what I heard, the area that was blocked off is not normally closed to boaters so this appears on the face of it to be a case of folks not paying attention or attempting to be obnoxious. If something insidious had happened there would have been a LOT of news coverage along with many cell phone photos. That river has two sides and there was traffic on the bridges.

Watching Fox, they're wondering why an exercise would occur at this time. I know exercises happen at any and all times, because in reality, terrorism has no respect. But 9/11 always brings the hair on edge to some people who were traumatized on that day, so poor timing here.
