We Don't Call Them Roundabout Girls in Greece.

I wish we did though, it's such a wonderful term but Sandra gave it to me for the Spanish equivalent. We do have some here but they are imported from Russia and other countries, and no one actually sees them, except the men of course. And we never quite know if they are actual 'pornies', the Greek word, or not. Sandra says the Spanish ones lol around at roundabouts under their parasols and goodness knows what they get up to in the Greek cities but this is a nice rural area. The actual brothel nearby was closed down in the times of the Juanta and I've been regaled with many tales about its finest hours. Every so often a certain bar reopens where the men are conned into paying five times the normal price for a drink for a girl working there but these days discretion rules and we don't really know what goes on. Every now and again the police close it down and the girls apparently disappear. So what do you call them and how do they ply their trade, discreetly or otherwise?

I wouldn't call them at all! (boom boom!) Just for clarification,Would that be Roundabouts,as in road traffic roundabouts,(or traffic Circles as the US Describe them) or as in the Amusement Park/Fairground rides (perhaps an inappropriate choice of words, there, but you get the idea!) As to where they work, rumour and the occasional news report of a house being raided is all I get to go on..

Hi ShepherdSpy, I must think on that one. In our nearest large town there is actually only one roundabout if I think about it, Greeks really haven't mastered using them, and I can't imagine it would be a safe place at all to sell anything without being demolished by a car. It isn't the amusement park kind and I have never heard of a traffic circle before. I rather imagined Sandra was referring to the Spanish equivalent of a small mini roundabout in the middle of a square. So discetion rules in your part of the world, it just amuses me to ponder on these things as the old tales of the pre Juanta brothel here although most likely embellished are great fun to hear about, especially when the current older gents are pointed out as the ones who used to frequent the place.

Certain cities are known to have "Red light districts" and the resulting "Kerb crawlers" driving by to check things out might appreciate only having to go around in a circle rather than up and down a long street..it could be a traffic hazard if there were lots of potential customers in the area,or a lot of choice...

Ah yes, Bradford springs to mind immediately. I think the UK way of going about it is a bit more Americanised than the rest of Europe in general, but as I said I don't know what does on in the sin filled cities of Europe. It certainly all sounded like good natured goings on in the days of the Juanta but probably isn't a laughing matter these days with the issue of east European girls and others becoming part of the whole illegal trading of people for nefarious reasons. I don't believe that kind of thing will reach our area but it could become an offshoot of controlled rings operating from Athens.

Having A Licensed Brothel Is A Dream At Many Places In my Country .. To tell You the Truth There Is Trafficking in Our Country Not A Clean Trade Happening .. If I Was There At the Time Of Juanta At Greece, It Might Have indeed Been A Bad Idea(according to me Now After Looking Up the Real Situation) LoL ..

Well prash the juanta was around between 67 and 74 but I've not known too many expressing the wish to be living during the times of a military dictatorship. Each to their own. It was no fairy tale, the juanta and the brothel were both here locally, and although the juanta were perhaps a bit over the top they did bring the first signs of richness to the area by making a law saying each household was entitled to have a toilet, even if it was an outside one, and providing the funds to make this vision a reality. And they insisted everyone had the right to water from neighbouring villages. So I gather you just fanicied Greece at that time for the brothel then Prash, do tell if they are indeed a feature in your country, you coyly avoided the question I see.

Hi Prash, well I can always pop some more Juanta related stuff in this wonderful new interest of Greek life style, I find the history of that period quite fascinating and often forget that a lot of my information is anectodal from friends and not widely available in the history books. It's actually quite difficult to get much English written copy regarding the civil war years as well which are more or less not known about widely outside of Greece and many of the tales will be lost soon.

hi thea here in the United States they stick out like a sore thumb with skimpy tops and skimpier bottoms and ironically are at the street corners close to Disney Land, that brings lots of questions from the little ones to their moms on the w ay to disney land ,what are those girls doing mom? oh oh mom turns red and sort of c hanges the su bject. My husband's sister was visiting us from Walla Walla and she asked me , why are those girls dressed like that, wont they get chilled, i had to explain that they were street walkers or to be blunt who#es. wish mylot wasnt quite so fussy. Betty turned red and said oh my right in front of disney land and we laughed and said, oh yes they're not particular.they arent very discreet either. She was a strict Seventh Day Adventist and pretty naive, Walla Walla is not as large as Anaheim ca.

Hi Hatley, great response, so yours are of the out in the open and skimpily dressed variety. Do they procure their wares in the daytime then or is it that children visit disneyland at night? Now you might paint Betty as the sheltered naive type but there's always girls like this in American TV shows, don't seventh day adventists watch tv? I love the name Walla Walla, what on earth kind of place is it Hatley? Obviously no roundabout girls there of course.

I don't have a whole lot of knowledge on this subject nor experience, lol. We don't have any brothels around here that i know of anyway. I know once when i was pretty young there was a prostition ring going on in town , a high class one but they stopped it. i never see the woman till this day that i don;t think about it. read in the paper other day where she sang in church .i'm thinking, yeah right.

Hi Aunty, whilst we may not have any experience on this subject I rather imagine in the areas where it is that the women talk about it behind closed doors like they did about Belle Watling in 'Gone with the Wind', curious if there were mirrors inside these places. I've never actally come across one even by sight like you have but there are fond memories around here of the days of the brothel, but it's probably preferable for them to think about that than the other main thing of the time, the Juanta.
