facebook owning your pictures?

facebook has been the number 1 site for social computing. thus, more and more people are using it. but 1 thing that bothers me is that some friend of mine(i forgot who) said that the photos you uploaded in facebook will be somewhat owned by them. is that true? recently my cousin deleted her account in facebook, which means that all information and photos, videos should have been deleted. but after signing up again, all of her photos and information are available. does facebook really owns the pictures you upload?
