the extreme right in the uk is extremely racist - the bnp recently got into trouble for only accepting white members. they are now planning protests in islamic neighbourhoods and parallels have been drawn between this and the anti-jewish activity that went on in the 30s. do you think this is a good point or an exaggeration and what is the situation in your country? and a link if you want some more detail: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/london/8251958.stm

We still have those issues in the US, Jb, and however much I hate it and cannot understand it, I think racism will always exist in some form. President Obama has to be more well-protected than any other president in our history. And racism still exists here among other groups, too. Sad! The anti-jewish activity culminated with Hitler. Not much can top that for inhumanity! Karen

it's part of human nature to form groups and racism is nicely simple for the hard of thinking. i agree that it becomes extremely dangerous when these groups gain power.

Hi judith, my take on this is that the bnp have never been the sharpest smarties in the box in the first place and anyone who isn't white who actually wants to join them must be even thicker than them as the bnp vocally so not like non whites. It's nothing to do with who is British by birth or whatever, the bnp are just out and out rascists and do not like non whites, that is simple enough for their little brains to understand. They could be compared to the brownshirts of the hitler youth who were also brawn rather than brain and also very easily influenced. However there is a point to be learnt here from history which is although groups like the bnp may be considered a joke if they ever do have enough support and are taken over by someone smart enough to manipulate them for their own agenda, as happened in Berlin, then real trouble could come, but as yet the bnp are just viewed as a group of thugs without due thought processes. The issue between bnp thugs and asian youth I am aware of from my teenage years and would best in my mind be described as 'gang neighbourhood mentalitly'. I once live near to an area where many Pakistanis became the majority of immigrants there and whilst the parents may have been hard working people a minority of the teenage boys became typical disaffected youth and fought with the white teenage thugs in a territorial gang way. Obviously years later this escalated into no go area in some towns and names such as muslims and bnp were thrown into the equation. Whilst I believe that football hooliganism is revolting the conflict between the two groups now is nothing more than hooliganism on the streets now justified by the attachment of labels. All such hooligans of whichever group or race should be rounded up and punished in severe suitable fashion and stop disturbing the peaceful majority and their activities should be renamed as hooliganism without brains instead of attaching race cards to it. Please suggest suitable punishments Judith if you agree.

Optionally substitute 'Welsh', 'Scottish', 'Irish' or 'Jewish' for 'French', of course. It is potentially possible, too, for someone to be a 'Jewish Jock Muslim' in their terminology!

and these kind of groups exploit any economic problems in a country (they're taking our jobs etc etc). i agree that while they are just ridiculous when they don't have any power when they start becoming more influential they are extremely dangerous. suitable punishments - to again (mis) quote old harry's game chuck them in the pit of gay, black, french muslims.

I spend a lot of time in the UK and as far as I can determine the BNP is greatly out-numbered in most areas. An e-mail I got from a friend a few weeks ago told it basically like it is. A family of two all white people will have 2.01 children on average while the muslims etc will average 8.11 children so in very few years the UK is going to be better than 80% muslim and other non-white races - all I have to do is look around the neighborhood I am in and I can see this happening. I know quite a few muslims and no matter what the age they seem to be having another child at least every 12 months and they begin at an early age and cotinue until they are getting to be past child besring age. If the BNP wants to protest in Islamic neighborhoods they will find out just how far they have been outnumbered.

In the past, the same comment has been made about Catholics tending to have larger families than normal. Yes, us2owls, the BNP are still very 'fringe' and discounted, even, by most normal 'right wing' people. Unfortunately, they seem to capture the imaginations (if not the actual allegiance) of a certain sector of young people and that is worrying partly because it means that law enforcement has to show itself to be more severe than it generally really is. It is demonstrations such as the one quoted which, even though they involve a rather small number of people, which seem to show that we have an incipient 'police state' because the Police are often very evident and, sometimes, as violent (or more so) than the demonstrators. Our Police can be organised, well armed and well protected on occasion (as they should be, of course) but this often reflects badly on the image that they still, I believe, deserve: that of being there to protect and assist law-abiding citizens rather than to prevent disorder and crime (both are necessary, of course - it's a matter of balance, image and perception).

oh i've heard this one before us2owls. basically it won't happen because the fact that some muslims are having a lot of children is due to the fact that they have fairly recently arrived from another country where this is normal. people that have lived here for several generations don't seem to do this. but this is one of the scare tactics that these groups use.

I can blame them for my mother-in-law? ooh, where do I sign... But seriously I hope it doesn't get out of hand like it did in Germany, but I fear that it may. And it's probably more likely to happen here than where you are, I'm thinking.

i don't know. the economic crisis has meant that a certain type of person is happy to latch onto a convenient victim. however these are still very much minority groups nasty as they might be. incidently did you know that everybody who looks like they might be from central asia is a muslim - sikhs, hindus, agnostics, christians, everybody. i had a flatmate who was half spanish and he got rascist abuse from some idiots a few times. again

Does the BNP wear white robes and pointy white hats? Maybe they are some sort of branch of the US's KKK.

i think most of them would look spherical in robes. that could be the reason they don't. they are actually a minority political party that is allowed to stand for election - if they start accepting non-white members that is (heh heh heh). i think some muslims should join solely in order to wind them up. incidently these particular protests have been organised by another right wing group - the english defense league - another right nasty lot.
