What's the most durable laptop brand?

After two and a half years of usage, the motherboard of my Toshiba laptop got destroyed recently. I'm currently on the lookout for a good laptop, probably one that would last me a good 4 to 6 years (is that even possible?). What brand would you suggest me buying? And what specs should I look out for?

Unuhn, first i want to say that: Japan's brand give out a lot of beautiful outlooking but they didn't have a real inside (my own opnion). And if want to buy a laptop for 4 to 6 years you can try "Lenovo" it's a very good laptop. Maybe you should buy a "ThinkPad" I think it's good, but it's expensive. If you want to some thing cheap just like i am using, which is "3000 G430" of Lenovo. It's pretty good i think, and it has a good inside, 250Gb harddisk and 2Gb memory and a Combo Rom(CD-RW and DVD Read)(maybe you can buy a Ranbo[CD&DVD-RW]). ok

Thanks for replying! A friend recommended Lenovo's Thinkpad too, but I found it's price to be too expensive and it's features are more catered to a business-oriented user (I'm currently a college student and I'm planning to use it to write papers, surf the net, etc.). I'll look into the less expensive line then :P. How long have you had your laptop, if I may ask? :D

I am a student in high school, this one Lenovo "3000 G430" is not a thinkpad, but it's good and not so expensive, i cost about $715 in China, and it's good at running Windows7 in this machine, it's good to use. Don't buy a thinkpad is ok, i think. Good luck!

Thanks for replying. I was thinking of getting an HP laptop, too. But I think they're more on the expensive side. Besides, my sister recommends that I go look for another brand since she's not satisfied with her 4-year-old HP laptop (it grounds her whenever she puts her hands near the speakers at the laptop's armrest _

i think you must consider that a good laptop normally is due to the things you can't see when you buy than those ones you cn see such as the external view and so buying a brand that normally will use wuality hardware and use it correctly is the big point to endure the life of your pc in the years!! Personally as brands i like hp,ibm,dell..normally...so ibm have normally good hardware even if sometimes the configuration is much mor suitable for busines needs than consumer one!!hp and dell from this point of view have a big choice for business and consumer too..and normally they are good pc!!So may be when you buy better to spend a bit more but if your pc is a quality pc your money you will be divided for all the years your quality pc will endure on the contrary many people buy cheap pc bu after 2 years they must buy a new one because the motherboard, procssor or some critical internal component is down!!So i can say that it si really possible to endure your pc for many years for example my laptop are really old 8 years old and it i still alive!!

durable laptop for regular usage would be any laptop that you feel comfortable using and you think will meet all the needs you have.

Now, how were you able to do that? Do you take special measure when you're using your laptop?

I asked a friend who previously worked at Dell about their products. Admittedly, he said that they've got some nice specs on their notebooks but the quality of their laptops aren't that great since they're somewhat prone to a certain degree of breakage. I'm not so sure if I could take his word for it though. But I'll do check out some Dell laptops when I get to go to an electronics store this week.

when i search for a new pc normally i check 3-4 brands that normally have a quality hardware and specs and so they will be trust ful and durable in time!! So normally i like brands as hp,dell,ibm....or sony vaio.So never had expereinced with sony so i don' know but as regards hp and dell they are really good as pc..also ebcause you can configure your laptop by your own if you will buy it on the ent and so even change the basic specs as well!Ibm normally create laptop less attrctive as regards external view but normally they are trustful and hardware really durable in time!! So as regards brands i like also much alienware pc, as high-end pc but they really expensive and voted to entertainment so never had one but i heard they really pwoerful and cool!!

durable would be the panasonic toughbooks, they can stand up to being thrown getting wet etc but there isn't really a durable computer on the inside especially a laptop which easily builds up heat.

Thanks for the recommendation but I found the toughbook to be too expensive for my budget (I almost got a heart attack upon seeing the ridiculously high prices!!! x_X). I'm still a student so I'm kinda limiting myself to a budget below US $700, perhaps? Could you recommend something within that range?
