Mumbai On My Mind

As you may know, I am an American, a New Yorker, and yesterday marked the eight year anniversary of the darkest day in my country's history. As we mourn our dead and remember what evil comes for fanaticism as well as reflect on the heroism and bravery our people showed on that day in the days that followed, I am also thinking of the people in India, specifically Mumbai. I wonder how they are doing as the one year anniversary of their darkest days looms on the horizon. The media here pretty much forgot about our brothers and sisters over there shortly after the attacks ended, but I have not, I cannot and I will not forget that they too share the pain I and so many others feel in the aftermath of jihadist attack. I cannot remove from my mind the thoughts of little Moishe'le Holtzberg who witnessed the brutal degradation torture death and mutilation of his parents two days before his second birthday. I know he has since gone to Israel to live with his grandparents, I hope he is doing OK. I can't forget all the other innocent people who died, were injured, lost loved ones and are suffering because of those horrible acts.
I know we have a lot of Indians here at mylot, so I am asking today, HOW ARE YOU? I welcome you to share your stories and want you to know you are in my heart.
For Non-Indians, I ask, do you too think about the people of Mumbai as I do? Are you too haunted by little Moishe'le Holtzberg's sweet face? Did your heart break as mine did for those people when you learned of the horrific terrorist attack they suffered? Feel free to share your thoughts.
Peace Be With You.

Hello dear friend,
I am a "Mumbaikar". I feel so proud to call myself that. It was not only the attack in November, there were serial bomb blasts in the compartments of the local trains in July 2006. The blasts were held in jam packed compartments when people were returning back home after a day in the office. It was Rushhour. The time was so chosen to result in the maximum possible deaths. Then there were bomb blasts at the Gateway Of India a Monument in our city, very opposite to the Hotel Taj where the attacks were held.
I will love to share a real incident with you guys.
It was around noon, two bikers entered in the market, the city is Delhi (Capital of India). The bilkers were carrying a tiffin box in a plastic bag. They entered into this bazaar which was crowded to the hilt. It was the peak business hour. The pillion rider threw away the plastic bag once they were in the middle of the bazaar. A boy 09 years old saw this. He out of humanity picked up the tiffin box and wanted to return it to the bikers. The Bikers were in no mood to stop and comply. They fled. The tiffin box was emitting smoke within seconds and BOOM.
The boy was shredded into pieces. he was the sole earning member of his family. He used to supply tea to the various shops of the bazaar and was living in a mere salary of Rs.350 a month around $7. His ailing mother and a little sister were on this boy's support.
We have come out of it because we know this isn't the end. Terrible things can happen at any moment so live every moment which one can get. I am not sad, I am very sad with what has been happening all around the world.

I am so sorry for that little boy and his family! Was anybody able to assist his family? Our news here in the US is very limited, even such stores in our on country get ignored, like the jihad shooting of some innocent men outside a military recruiting office a few months back. They often neglect to tell us much of anything that happens outside our own borders. Thank you for sharing. How awful it must have been for all the innocent people harmed in all those attacks and the people who love them. I admire your strength and resilience and I am proud to know you.

Yes i agree with you. I am an Indian and i know very well how Munbai people suffered a lot through terrorist attack. There were nemourous attacks on Mumbai the Business Capitial of India. The main purpose was to destroy the Indian Economy .I should really appreciate the people of Mumbai as the city limped back to normal. They still have in their minds the horror but are not scared . Any where in India our people are United regardless the relegion, customs etc.

By fighting to get back to some sense of normalcy, the people of Mumbai showed the terrorists that they failed. Just as they failed here in the US when they wanted to see us crumble. I admire the people of India, especially those in Mumbai.

Our 9/11 in the United States, Spain's 3/11, & the mumbai situations were all committed by extrmists & criminal organizations. All tragic & senseless.
The differences were probably the number of deaths, & what the events led to. Probably our 9/11 was what caused the faltering of the US economy, & the probably the rest of the world got affected by it. It also led to the wars in Afghanistan & Iraq. That probably didn't help the American economy much either.
Spain's 3/11 caused the Basque separatist group to be falsely of committing atrocities that they didn't do, & when the truth came out, the downfall of Spain's President at the time. It was the day before Spain's Presidential elections, & he was voted out of office.
I heard that the mumbai incident also almost led to another India-Pakistani war, but I'm not sure how true that is.
I thought I was friends with a lady in Pune, India - who i was going to try to direct to this discussion, but I was only able to send her a friends request so far ...

I am so sorry to read this article. I didn't pay morry attention with the attack at that time, and I just knew which happend from the news. But I can feel the sorrow the attack brought to Indian. Best wishes for all Indian!
These days I heard some Indian Generals moved soldiers to the border to China. And the relationship between our two countries' border soldiers tenses up. I don't think it's good to our two countries' people. The result maybe will worse than the attack in Mumbai.
Peace be with us!
